Default 302 W Transmission / diff center

Morning all, I'm currently in the progress of doing a TE Cortina V8 conversion. I've picked up a cheap 302 W engine as all I really want is the Block. Ppl I've spoken to have recommended using a C4 transmission. Just wondering what everyone else has used??
For the engine rebuild we'll be aiming for the high 300's in Hp. The diff center has been welded by the previous owner also, can you recommend a suitable lsd center that will fit in the original housing. Cheers..

C4 would be the most common auto behind a Windsor. Can't go wrong really.

C4 is a great trans and at 300 HP will serve you well built right.
As for diff since the carrier is welded maybe look to a true trac is a good option. That replaces the whole carrier assembly

Hi, i have a Ford Capri with a 302w, i am running a C4 with a small stall.
Surprisingly some guys run a Borg warner 8 and three quarter rear end out of old chrysler vehicles or Fords(Falcons Mustangs 70's)generally very strong for use in the smaller cars and lighter, old Chrysler Centura's were good as the whole housing would almost fit straight over on small fords(although finding one now would be very hard.
Generally Ford 9 inch is the main conversion.

Borgwarner dont make an 8 3/4" diff and theres no point fitting a centura diff as therur the same as the Cortina

The BW used in early ford vals etc was an m75 or m78 with either a 7.5" or 7.8" crown

Cheers for the clarification,

Was under the impression they were 8 3/4.
Back in the day i helped with several conversions of these from the Centuras into the Small Fords.
Mainly Capris who had the Castlemain Rod Shop conversion kits.
The LSD versions were a cheaper alternative, to the more expensive 9 inch, which had to be shortened.

On the Subject of the Cortinas, i had a daily driver,TF Cortina that i tweaked with the old 4.1 crossflow, ran low thirteens - with the Borg Warner rear end, gears changed to 3.55.
Rear end held up surprisingly well.
Vehicle would surprise alot of V8's at the time.

My TE runs 10.6 down the 1/4 mile. Around 460hp. I still run a borgy diff. Have done for 10 years. Pintara 4.11 centre, mini spool and 28 spline axles. No issues..

I'm planning on transplanting a FG Barra into TF 4 cyl shell.

Looking to beef up the diff to LSD & convert to 5 stud with discs & need some advice please.

I've heard that I could use a E series Falcon LSD center with
the short axle (RHS?) from a AU Series 1 &
the short axle (LHS?) from a E Series &
the discs off the E series.

Is this possible or over complicated?

If this is the solution would the center a m75 or m78?

Thanks in advance.
