If any engine wear can be minimised by a fastidious owner, i'm all for it because i know (& many others do too) that kind of attention to detail is what separates the good cars from the really good cars.

I would expect owners to be fussy if they really loved their car, their pride & joy will show the tlc heaped on it, at sale time the car becomes that much easier to sell.

So why not if it makes a difference, it does for me.

cheers, Maka

I fill the filter mainly for lube. To moisten the seal that is.

The poll question is wrong.

It should read, "Have you ever had an engine failure because you didn't prefill the oil filter?"
You would never really know as premature engine failure would usually have at some other post oil change time (perhaps even in the hands of another owner).

Fair call but i must admit, i've bought, serviced and sold around 100 cars in my driving life and of all the questions a perspective buyer has asked, whether i prefilled the oil filter on each occasion isnt one of them.
Infact, most people put more value in dealer stamped records and having worked in dealerships i can tell you the number of prefilled filters going on in them is non existant.

I was asked today for advise.
workmate purchased an 18 month old low KM dealer demo as part of a 2 vehicle deal.

It was serviced by the dealer prior to pick up with the 2nd years service stamped. It a fixed price deal and the second year includes all filters. other years included oil.

Since my Ford has a top mount cartridge filter it would get messy pre-filling. I just use some oil on the rubber seal and that's it.
