Hi all,
My Focus is a 2008 European Model made in South Africa. I was stuck in traffic a few days ago, the car beeped and the LCD showed "ENGINE HIGH TEMPERATURE". Temp guage was just entering the red zone. I quickly switched the engine off, checked the coolant levels, the overflow tank was still fairly full. I restarted the engine and turned on the heater, and fan onto full to help cool the coolant. I plugged the OBD dongle into it, and the Torque app reports fault code P0480. Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit. I've taken the car to a workshop, who tested the fan with 12v supply and it works fine, but I'm unsure as how to proceed from now. Has anybody had this issue before, and knows how to fix, or should I take it to Ford and let them diagnose it? I'm pretty sure it's going to cost me a few hundred, but that's a bit of a problem for me. Could it be something as simple as a blown fuse, or burnt out connector? I'm still driving it at the moment for important trips only, and have the OBD Dongle hooked up with monitoring the Coolant Temp. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks |

There will be a temperature sender unit that turns the fan on.
Sound like that is defective. Sometime the issue can be fixed temporarily by turning on the air-con as it usually starts the radiator fan regardless of engine coolant temp. (assuming the fan is operational.) trace back the wires from the fan motor one of them will go to a sensor unit usually located in a housing on the engine near a radiator hose but not always so. Sorry but mione is a diesel engine so different to the petrol one |

Thanks. I'll check it out.
I've finally found the Gregorys service and repair manual and will follow your advice and the advice in the manual. With the 80 amp fuses, do they just pull out, or do I need to undo the nuts that hold them down? Never seen these type before Photo of the fuses https://db.tt/mFGEabmS |

There is a fuse for the engine cooling fan so wise to also check it It should be in the engine compartment fuse box not the one under the dash inside

Fuse was fine, checked continuity was ok.

Taking it to Ford tomorrow. But it sounds like they want to replace the entire fan assembly :(

Cannot understand why they would replace the fan if your garage said it was fine on test. they may replace the thermostat housing if it is the part with the temp. sender unit in it.

So Ford says the whole cooling fan needs replacing, $1133...
Part Number is 3M5H8C607RJ but they say they can't just change the fan controller.. |

No, it didn't come on when the AC was switched on.
I've had it replaced since. |

Hi
i have the same high engine temp problem in traffic..Service centre said fan is working fine but the PCM module might be faulty. They couldn't get the same model PCM till now and looking for part. Is there could be any other problem?? |
