Form Jan 2007 to Dec 2009 I worked for an IT support company, and we specialized in providing IT support to small, medium and a couple of large business. We had about 60 companies on our books. We had about ten of us, and the two owners. I would have visited almost all of them at least once over that time, so I saw quite the varied workplaces over that time. One of these customers was a Melbourne based company that specialised in designing and project managing the construction of industrial plants that handle everything from CNG\LNG\NO2\CO2 to plants that deal with water, desal, detergents, etc. So a smart bunch of engineers. I'll refer to them from here on as "That Business". However, the owner was, to put it frankly, a downright abusive C U Next Tuesday to his staff, and even to us, to the point where our bosses told us to "tell him you are leaving" and walk away. Let's call him John Doe. One day I was at my desk and the support line rang, and their name came up. I answered it and it wasn't JDs PA, it was JD. This time, JD was shouting down the phone about how his internet at his house kept dropping out, and how come we haven't fixed it yet (even though we never sold it to him). Before I could even get a "Sorry JD, we don't have any open jobs about this, let me create one" he blasted the living daylights out of me along the lines of ..."kids like YOU who never fix anything" nonsense. Mid tirade, I said to JD "Listen JD, I'll put you through to my boss and you can chat with him about it". Well didn't that set him right off. At this point the boss could see what was going on but couldn't hear it. I hit transfer, punched in the bosses number and walked to his desk, and explained the situation. "Ok, I'll deal with him", and he answers the phone. "Hi JD, it's IT boss man..." and has to instantly hold the earpiece away from his ear from the tirade. After a brief shouting match between the two about when someone can look at it and whose paying, my boss said "Listen JD, get your PA to organise a time you'll be home and I'll send coolozzieguy out to look at it, I'm hanging up now, goodbye"... SLAM. Three days or so go by and we haven't heard back from JDs PA. So I call TB back to find out whats going on. I get their receptionist, and she sounded unusually chirpy. "Can you put me through to JDs PA?" I asked. "Not sure she is hear coolozzieguy, let me find out" and puts me on hold. I've never been on hold for more than 10 secs with TB, as their phone system gives short 'bleep bleeps' at everyone's desk when someone is put on hold. Three-four minutes go by, and one of their engineers answers the phone. "Hi coolozzieguy, haven't spoken to you in a while!" and he was also unusually chirpy. We always got along well, and chatted for a minute or so about this and that. I said I was meant to be put to JDs PA, and he said she was away today. I said "I'm also guessing that means JD is away too?" He replied "yeah, how'd you guess that?" "Because I have never heard all of you guys so calm and relaxed before", and he just nervously chuckled. I asked him along the lines of "How could you have worked for JD for so long?" He replied along the lines of "well coolozzieguy, I still love the job, it's close to home, the moneys not bad, but regarding JD we all just try to keep our heads down. The hassle of looking for another job isn't worth it yet" (this was during the GFC). We ended up dumping TB about six months later, as the bosses got tired of dealing with the owner, JD. Even then, he was rather angry at us. He would also ring and abuse the aforementioned owner (my boss) and bicker and shout about every line on his monthly invoice. Even as my boss was telling him a brutal 'thanks but we don't need your business' JD wasn't satisfied. Some just never are, and I think that Raj could be the same. Seeing those YouTube videos reminded me instantly of JD from TB. I just got that vibe. On the flip side, we had a customer in Clayton, who is a medium sized commercial builder in SE Melbourne. Started out with 8-10 employees, with two owners. After getting burnt by IT companies (two in six months) they were a little apprehensive about taking us on, but they had faith and we delivered. By the time I left my last job, these guys went from that size to having about 20 estimators alone. Every time the boss sent me there to fix an issue or do an install, I would walk away smiling as they were great to deal with. Nothing was ever an issue, they trusted us, paid on time, the owners were friendly, just a bunch of top blokes. What some (like JD of TB) don't realise is respect is a two way street, and that good IT infrastructure allows you to grow\manage your business better than most can comprehend. As C-N above mentioned, if you band together, you will get results at some point, and I hope the Ford employees can breathe a sigh of relief if the issues they were facing are now over.

nobody, and I mean nobody, knows what this 'inappropriate behaviour' was other than the parties involved. It may well be sexual, but could also be many other things. Could even be only an unproven allegation but the company had to be seen to be doing things. It certainly sends a message - if we can sack Raj, then we can sack anybody!

We will probably never know what the underlying reasons were unless someone sells their story to the media, whatever that story might be.
It is a loss for Ford whatever the reasons as under his guidance they have become both more profitable and produced some good vehicles. Cheers Russ

"FORD has named a new chief for its North American operations, less than a day after sacking the old one over allegations of “inappropriate behaviour”.
His name? Kumar Galhotra, a longserving Ford veteran credited with helping to turn the idling Lincoln luxury sub-brand into the domestic powerhouse it is today. “Ford Motor Company today announced key changes to its senior management team as it continues to strengthen its automotive business, improve the company’s operational fitness, and accelerate a strategic shift to capitalise on emerging opportunities,” the car maker said in a release that makes the best of the previous day’s turd sandwich. Galholtra will be responsible for leading all aspects of Ford’s North American business, Ford said. He will report to Jim Farley, Ford’s executive vice-president and president of global markets. “Kumar is an incredibly talented executive with a special feel for product and brand. He is also a seasoned leader who knows how to drive a business transformation,” Farley said. “Kumar is the right person to lead our North American business to new levels of operational fitness, product and brand excellence, and profitability.” Galholtra’s elevation has opened the door to Joy Falotico, the former chairman of Ford’s finance division who now becomes the group vice president, Lincoln Motor Company. She is tasked with “leading the continued evolution of Lincoln as a world-class luxury brand”. The man Galhotra has replaced, Raj Nair was unexpectedly and summarily dismissed from his position heading up Ford’s North American operations yesterday after what appears to be an embarrassing turn of events for the company. Maybe Barnaby Joyce needs to slip over and see Trump . Might be a job in the offing now seeing he's just chucked in the Deputy PM job . Probably best not to get a reference from his former boss though.

Nearly all senior politicians attract offers of huge salaries from the private sector after they finish up in Canberra, regardless of their reason for leaving or the length of their tenure. Strange about that... But in reality, Joyce will sit in the backrooms like Abbott, using his self entitled views to cause as much friction inside the party as possible. This is going to get very ugly.
