For anybody who has a passion for these things, this Doco/Movie is highly recommended. All the usual faces:the legendary John McGuinness,Bruce Anstey, the Dunlop’s & of course who can forget Guy Martin.

In the early-mid 80s an in law had a bike shop.

The Hailwood bike was centre stage. I sooo wanted that thing.
I used to start it, just to get some of that sound...oh my!

Great memories.

No thread on motorcycles n legends should be without a mention of this guy,my old man met him when they were both racing 900SSs at Ruapuna raceway many many years ago which led to a great friendship, bloke was a complete and utter genius.Well respected bloke, will never forget his funeral procession seemed 1/2 of Christchurch turned out on the streets to see him off.

Fwiw pic taken a few years back at a motorcycle museum here over the ditch, bloke on Britten is the old mans brother who for awhile had the best job on earth for a retired bloke ie looking after said bikes,Britten was doing the rounds so he took the opp for a sit on the thing, few Vincents in the line up as well.

Fast forward a bit and the bikes in collection were sold to an outfit in Invercargill, mrs and myself to a look see last year, random pics from said visit re Vincents.

Being this thread is on these gladiators on open road racing it came back to me the days of Bathurst when it used to hold 2wheels on our hallowed place and sidecars.
I was a young fella back then but I remember Toombs/Hansford atm....and deaths/crashs that occurred back then.
Just check out some of the early landscape in this link in the pioneering days.

At least they died doing what they love. I respect that.

They do as they want and the devil merely laughs.
