GPS Vehicle Trackers.... Opinions or experiences

Hi all, I am just starting to look into possibly fitting a GPS Tracker to my car.
Given the way in which society here seems to be headed (significant vehicle theft increases) I feel like it may be a worthwhile investment if the worst was to happen and my car was stolen.
Any of you had any experience with them?
Recommendations?

Anytime this subject comes up you get the people posting but the Tracker will be no use as the people who steal your car will have a GPS blocker and Mobile Phone blocker.

I would rather be proactive and add the extra security as they are only $200 now and the cost of a sim and prepay plan.

If you can not spend an extra $200 for extra security then you really do not love your car.

Another option is to buy or use an old iPhone.
Get a mobile pre-paid $10 a month plan from Amaysim. (Uses Optus network).
Put the phone on silent and vibration alerts off.

Wire up a 12 volt USB power supply to the car battery, so the iPhone will always be charged up, even with ignition/accessories off.

Attach the iPhone under the dash or hidden in the car somewhere with velcro.

Enable "Find my phone" on it.

If your car gets stolen, you can track your iPhone from another iPhone, iPad or computer and locate your car on a map to within 10 metres, which is good enough to locate a car.

No need to pay for GPS tracker fees.

Then give the info to the police.

With Blackowl there are no fee's after you have purchased the tracker - just the mobile phone plan cost.

It also gives you the option to text you or send an app message when the car leaves your driveway and as said I have the additional function to kill the engine when it is stopped.

Not that it’s a reason to not fit a tracker, but I believe vehicle thefts have been steadily declining, not increasing as you say.

The whole mobile phone thing can get costly if you have multiple cars.
I tried an amaysim $10 plan a while back for a spare phone I had, the thing never had any signal even though it said it was optus, don't think it would be any better strapped under a car seat.
That and most people I know disconnect batteries for storage on their classics.
I've put my time and effort in the initial security of the cars so hopefully they don't go anywhere in the first place.

Mine works fine ,no fees just an aldi pre paid only costs if it sends a text.
