Seeing Pommie Steve Reed wheelstand the Red Wings T/A rail almost to the point of no return at Eastern Creek.
Seeing WSID's first side-by-side (and mine) 4 sec pass, also was my first 300mph pass.
Watching Victor run the original 57, big balls for a "street" car.
Standing on the fence at Willowbank watching the fuelers run from only a couple of metres away.
Sitting in the control tower at Willowbank for the T/F semi's at the Winternationals.
Watching the "Stealth Valiant" take out the DYO bracket at a street meet at Willowbank. Dialled in at 19.8 and ran 19.80 or 19.81 all day. Reason for "stealth" - ran full bog stock budget street exhaust and you couldn't hear the bugger run! In fact I think his missus took out the "Powerpuff" section running low 20's on the same day!

Great thread Craig!

Gee their are some old farts on here LOL

Great moments mmm.........
-Going to my first drag race at Calder in the very early 80's. I was into EH Holdens @ the time. First car I saw race was an EH powered by a 350 Chev, I didn't know it was possible i was young LOL. It did a burnout, staged and pulled the biggest wheel stand I had ever seen!!! Damaged the car so it did not race again that day.
It didn't matter I was hooked and have been since!!

-Top fuel,anywhere anytime

-Watching Rob Coxs 302 power '57 Chev wheelstands anytime.

-Watching Graham Cooper and the Brick Layer anytime, I drove an EH wagon at the time!

-Hans Van Dyke, John Traverna, arrr all the guys running the numbers back then!!

-Screwing together my own Red motor at 19 years old for my EH wagon and running 15.3@96mph my first time out. Never been someone so happy to run a 15!!

-Crewing for a Pro Mod car in the UK in the late 80's. Watched the owner build it from scratch in a garage, he did every weld, nut and bolt, fiberglass, engine assembly etc. Ran 8.2 off the trailer on a "shake down" pass.

-Attending the USA "World Finals" at Indy in 1993

-Spending 3.5K on a work van and running 12's

-We need ANDRA back in Melboure and a new track. Todays youth are being robbed of some great memories.... I am getting old!

Yes I remember that, wasnt it due to the front of his Sidchrome funny car not registering the timing beams properly? He wasnt to happy and it led to him being a spectator for a while!

Yes everything went quiet all of a sudden, I wasn't sure what it was for a second! Gave the infield crew a good laugh, they thought they had seen everything.

Or you could have ment the time my throttle jammed open crossing the line, I tried to pull up using the brakes in a panic. Figured out turning the key off worked better after I filled my undies!

Or the time I ran out of fuel half way down the strip and had to be towed back to the pits

Or the time........

I better shut up now:monkes:

And put ideas of a real drag car out of my head, I'd kill myself.

Craig and I were talking the other week about an incident at the 79 Nationals. Yep we are that old, well Craig was old then, I was merely a snotty nosed four year old runnning around back then.

Anyway the story. Fred Dudek made the final of , I think, Super Stock and as luck would have it, had a solo run in the final. As the rules were back then, you had to complete a full quarter mile after staging to be able to win the race, even in a solo. As the light went green, something broke on the car and Fred had to push it all the way to the finish by himself to win the championship... Great memory of the good old days!
