Hey everyone,
my wife's diesel focus is losing coolant, about 1 litre per week, and i'm stuffed if I can find where the leak is. There's no drip when parked on dry concrete, there's no water in either foot-well. Ive taken it to a radiator place, where the radiator was pressurised for something like 6 hours with no drop in pressure, so I told him to replace the cap, which didn't work. Has to be either, hoses, radiator, heater core, water pump? Has anyone had a drama with losing coolant? The car is 2011 tcdi titanium focus. I'll have to take it back to a mechanics, and would love to hear some tips! Scott. |

Hi Scott, My last car which was a Skoda Octavia use to do this. I just topped it up each time. Perhaps whats happening is that you are topping it up when the car is cold. Once the car warms up it pushes the excess water out of the tank and looks like its dropping again.

Hey Jason,
thanks for that mate. Unfortunately when I first found the disappearing coolant, the reservoir was below the low level. Definitely losing it :( |

Hmmm that doesn't sound too good. I have a LV TDCi and I get a smell of coolant from mine when sitting idling for a while.
My levels don't seem to drop though. |

Have you checked to see if the coolant is going into the engine? Issues with head gasket, cracks etc could cause this. Is the oil milky, is there signs of condensation under the oil cap or coming through the exhaust?
It could be early stages so signs could be hard to trace, but if its not coming out it must be going in! |

Tape some paper over the overflow to test. it will soon show if that's where its going.

some times the water pump seal leaks due to age and it can be a pain to trace as it dribbles along various paths

Hey everyone.
So off to the mechanics this morning, and he found the leak, it turned out to be a leaking turbo hose. I hadn't even thought about that. I hope this helps someone at some stage. Scott |
