hi everyone
was wondering how you lot made your car friends and where did you go, how did you start the talks. asking because a mates moved away a couple years back and havent really found a backup mate in those last couple years and if either happened youd be better off as he would know people into cars you could get to know and then you could learn enough for other peoples standards just for a quiet life, if you knew more people youd have a better chance of getting cheap - free space for a car, and then youd be able to do alot more. cousins live a few hours away. where would you go in the copper coast to make car friends, there was a swap meet in kadina only a week ago and seen a few people so guess thats a big start. sometimes it doesnt seem to happen fast enough. also how else would you get to know more people so you got a better chance of having somewhere for cars and other things too. is there a way to have somewhere very very little to no cost to store and work on cars so you can have weekend car and old cars to work on whenever. as said sometimes it doesnt seem to happen fast enough. whats able to be done to make it seem alittle easier and better. thanks |

I have mates for 20 years and it is pretty hard to hook **** up mate. I don't know what to tell you. It's hard to keep it together as years go by.

I've got a great but small (5) group of close car mates, have many more friends into cars but 5 guys I tack with / catch up with regularly.
I actually met them on a car forum like this, but for hot rods, one now mate and I conversed heaps through PM and we organised a shed crawl, and literally until a week before had never met, on the she'd crawl another of my (now) close mates turned up and my daughter got on really well with her similar added daughter and we kept meeting up and helping each other on our projects. The same sort of thing replicated a few more times and here we all are today As for storage space it's not th sort of thing we have friends for, if it should come up that's great but that's not the end you should have in mind

Living in a small community like ours has advantages , especially when you talk about cars . We live in a little valley called the Fingal Valley . In this valley my home town is blessed with a group of people who enjoy cars . one of them is the local museum curator who is a car nut but specialises on British cars and old Oldsmobiles too . He called the museum Cranks and Tinkerers . A group of blokes and girls would meet up regularly for a counter meal at the pub to talk about cars . All of them had something pretty special from Impala's , Continental's, Capri's , Galaxy's , GT's , Rovers , all sorts . About 13 years ago they decided it was about time to have a try at running a Car Show on Faulkners Green . The next year the found about 30 cars turned up the weekend before the June Long weekend .
Now there are about 300 car entries . The HSV mob come along , the FPV Tickford XR crew , other Tasmanian Car Clubs venture along , lots of people , lots of stalls , food , beverages and now it commands the Sunday of the Long Weekend to co-inside with other local festival events, Shannons are a big sponsor along with other car services . The best bit is that each year you attend , you bump into people from previous years and others of us have created new friendships from the Annual Car Show . Here's a bit of drone footage shot from another local from this year's event only last week . More friendships and renewed ones made no doubt .I certainly did . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EAyeCX9MXo.. |

Join a ford car club.
You don't need the latest model to join in.

I met my "car mates" through online car forums and being involved in Cruises (BoostCruising and Cruising Brisbane). Have made life long friendships from those forums... Even though we dont get out cruising as much as we used to and are married/with kids we are still very close..
I'm also lucky in that my other circle of friends I have known since school... A few (including my Best mate) I have known since Grade 1 and the other's High School.. Again we are still close and catch up as much as possible..

what are ways to have your own work place to have more than one car so you can have project/weekend/show cars stored and be able to work on them

That sounds like a place where you can get help with paintjobs! But seriously, work is the best place as to have cars you need money!

Date a girl that has a car-guy dad. That should solve a couple of your problems.

What i would be doing in this case, is finding an old run down industrial unit,Try to marry the rent of the unit, to the current rent of which your paying for local housing (if in fact you are renting, and dont already own). Chances are -industrial unit rental will be more than local housing rental, so maybe get a mate to go halves with you. Win/win- place to stay and place to sleep. and being industrial unit should be plenty of space to keep your cars. As you have stated "work place", you should also be able to run your business from there as well.

Hello,
Sadly you only get one "best" mate per lifetime, you lose ya mate and he can never be replaced, usually you have gone through too much **** together, good and bad with à hell of a lot of trust involved. You can have " friends" but its just not the same really. Another thing is when you make friends with one person then you meet his close circle, and each one of them has a separate close circle! But be warned, you may get on with ya mate but maybe not with all his mates, everyone has different little quirks in their nature,so be carefull. I live alone with my feral cat, I choose the lifestyle I have, it suits my nature, be careful approaching others you meet and talking about yourself, your cars etc, let others speak too! I have worked alongside men for 3 months before they say a half decent word, others chat straight away, folk are like that, and don't give any "secretive" or personal stuff out too soon, you may not get on after all, could be à week or two, so use ya brain. Cheers Billy. |
