EF Monty on a budget

Hey Everyone, after some advice, preferably from guys who have already done similar.
I just bought an EFII Fairmont 4.0L. I have access to a cheap turbo in good nick with internal wastegate so is relatively easy to hook up, a few questions... 1) How much boost can I run with no intercooler and no mods to ECU/timing/fuel etc, just hooked straight up. Is this even possible without risking damage? 2)Am I better off doing pod filter/extractors/cam? 3)I will eventually convert it to LPG so will this affect either setup? 4)What kind of power and 1/4 mile times can I expect with either setup? I will shortly be swapping in a 3.45LSD. On top of the diff, my budget will be no more than $1500 so want best bang for my buck, and the reason why the turbo setup will only be a low pressure setup. Hope I'm not way off the mark with all this, I don't know much about turbos, I just wanna go faster on my tight ИИИИ budget. Thanks guys. Dennis |

1) 0psi
2) Theres a bit of price/power difference between a turbo setup and 'filter/extractors/cam' 3) You can still run LPG on turbo cars, LPG gear isn't cheap though, as you need to do it properly. 4) between 17sec and 10sec. I don't think $1500 is enough for a reliable turbo setup at all. There is a lot more to a turbo setup than a turbo. Have a search on the forums for other peoples setups and problems.

ignoring the other questions, $1500 won't go far for a turbo setup.
i'd deffinately just do the small things, maybe a T5 conversion to liven it up a tad. 3.45 LSD, cat back exhaust, wade cam & T5 would be my budget mods.

well for a $1500 budget id go with effalcon's suggestion... i myself would be leaving $3500 for a turbo and get it done properly. and a LPG conversion is lookin to set u back around $1800 by professional. $1k if u have the know-how...don't know nothin about turbos so i dunno how LPG would effect it

You can hook up the turbo cheaply, and probably on your budget too. all you need is:
rising rate fuel pressure regulator $250 Turbo flange welded to manifold $150 Oil lines and tee piece $120 Bosch 044 or equivelent $440 dump pipe $200 turbo pipe to throttle body $40 silicon hose joiners and clamps $100 lots of labour free done by you you really should have the timing and mixtures checked on a dyno but 6 psi has been run with no problems on many vehicles. |
