Hi
Are the standard pins in the narva 12 pin trailer plug rated high enough for electric brakes and are the plugs any good. Have a ba ghia with reverse sensors and need a socket with reed switch so wondered if the standard pins in the flat socket are heavy enough for electric brakes Standard pins are 15a and heavier are 30a If it’s not can you use a standard round socket and connect lights to that then get a flat socket and use the reed switch and buy a plug and use it just to keep the flap open or a switch in boot to turn them off or from cars to vans camera, Thanks |

Hi. One axle set of brakes draws about 4 amps so a narva plug could handle a tri-axle trailer, the only thing is a tri=axle trailer would need something better than normal trailer brakes. Cheers MD

12 pin would be fine for your purpose - don't use it to charge the batteries in the van though if it has them, it has the pins for it but you generally can't fit bigger than 6mm wire in them which is too small.
From your brake controller you want to be using 6mm twin core to the trailer plug. |

Not sure what you are asking here exactly, but if you want to run a camera as well, the 12pin plug will be fine for this as well. |

If you want the round normal socket what’s ways of disabling reverse sensors and switching from cars to vans camera like you can with the flat sockets with the switches. Can you buy a flat socket with the switch and not use the trailer lights only the reed switch then get a normal 7 pin large round and wire trailer lights and brakes to that then buy a plug for the flat socket just to keep the flap open so it disables the reverse sensors. What would you guys do |

Inside the 12pin flat plug, there will be 2 small wires going to the reed switch and also should be a sticker with n/o (normally open) or n/c (normally closed). depending on which one you have, when you change to a round plug, you need to tape up those wires. if n/c, tape the wires together. if n/o, tape the wires apart. this will disable the reverse beepers.

I assume so. People tow up over 3t with brakes controlled via brake controller wired through pin 5.

So give the 12 pin flat socket a shot but not wire fridge and batt through plug and have seperate andersons with exception of using pins 9 & 10 for fridge ign wire to switch relay on ??
