Smile Dodge Ram 1500 at Caravan Show,

I went to the Caravan Show on the weekend and the Dodge Ram 1500 was on display. Base model is $79.990:00 drive away. The Laramie is $114.990:00.
Tows 4.5tonne. Laramie is an impressive vehicle. The specifications are better than I expected. Cheaper than a Landcruiser Sahara etc. 5.7V8 3l diesel coming December. It will be interesting too see how sales go. Trim

No other option available at the present.
Possibly not a bad thing ? considering the bagging of the Ranger Raptor.

Fortunately, finance or a kidney transplant takes longer than that..

We can only hope that Ram 1500 sales power on and people at Ford take notice..

And a decent wheelbase without the tub sticking out behind the back wheels unlike that TTT.
Dodge and Chevy's are looking the business.
It would be nice if Ford brought back some heavier vehicles into their range like the good old days.

Do you know if a RAM duallie will be available.

Yes, 4.5T would be good for gooseneck or 5ver.

The GVM of 3450kg and maximum allowable axle weights of 1770kg are nowhere near high enough IMO.

I've had the GVM of my GU Patrol wagon upgraded to 3495kg, with a max rear axle load of 2000kg, and it's barely enough. I still have to watch I load.....

But what about the fuel economy?

I wonder what is better value for money, the Ram 1500 or a Landcruiser 79 since they are pretty similar prices.

If those weights are stock for the 1500 I wonder what it can be upgraded to.

As I'm not really a follower of modern pickups, I'm assuming the 5.9L Cummins 6cyl is long gone in the Ram. That always seemed to be it's biggest selling point?

5.9 was upgraded to a 6.7 with a 6 speed auto in 2006. It’s in the 2500 and higher. Bigger frame, bigger axles, heavy duty suspension, bigger brakes etc.

Factor in depreciation, resale value, reliability, dealer network, spare parts cost/availability and accessories. Toyota Landcruiser wins every day.

Seeing heaps of Rams pulling massive caravans passing through here. Very popular with the grey nomads.

There's an F350 in town, it gets used to pull a big horse trailer. Apparently much better on fuel than the Landcruiser it replaced, and it looks a few years old, these newer beasts all seem much better again.

Using that same logic, Toyota Camry always beat Ford Falcon.

I read somewhere about Camry doing sub 5 seconds for 0-100.

So yeah, Camry for the win!

True. Also on the official Toyota Australia website, on the main page for the 70 Series it states it comes standard with halogen headlamps, air conditioning and 2 airbags. Can't argue with modern features.
Don't get me wrong the 70 is fantastic at what it does, but the price is having a laugh. And people on here say manufactures selling Thai utes are price gouging.

Probably due to Ford and the other Thai TT's being over optimistic about what they can actually carry, unlike these real pick ups.

Saw a dual cab Ranger today leaving the quarry with 3/4 ton of gravel in the tray hanging off the back crabbing down the road with its front wheels bouncing in the air. Quite comical.

Brings back a couple memories from the 70's when I hauled a couple loads of house shingles to dump from an old victorian home with who knows how many layers of shingles. Each load was over 9K US lbs.

My '76 F250 came with a factory upgraded suspension that put it over many stock F350s of the day. Couple of the few times I needed 1st gear. The only real concern I had with driving was braking. Kept the speed down, left room in front and grabbed gear when needed.
