Great video Chopped, but helping out here as your link doesnt work:
Is the Barra 4.0L block better than the 2JZ and RB30? Way too technical for me, but interesting video testing hardness, size, construction of the barra block in comparison with RB30 and 2JZ. Last edited by baboon; 25-01-2019 at 08:23 PM. |

The Barra is a great engine - But big respect to the 2JZ, they made a serious engine there. It's a shame they didn't continue to develop it.

What i do like about that video and the one they did about the rb and jz motors, is whilst the guys each were sort of one eyed to their preffered brand, it wasnt just their opinions they simply argued. The numbers dont mean anything to me, but they went off the numbers. The pros and cons lists like price and availability etc were pretty decent lists. Like there is a chance my local wrecker may have a couple rb30s from wrecked vls or more likely r31 nissans. Rb20/25/26, no chance, but they do have many barras. A jz in that place would be a very rare sight. Maybe the odd soarer or is300 comes through, but rarely.

For an engine that had humble beginnings and a small performance market in OZ, Ford can hang their heads high IMO.
Nice video.

I'll take the Barra. Generally speaking, spare parts are plentiful and inexpensive... and it's tough as nails.

This is a good vid as well . She's a beaut donk for lots of reasons . We should indeed be happy it got built and proved to be a great option to the V8 's .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJ6O1qnMmak The opinions of the 2J and RB crowd though as stated already in this thread are pretty ho hum toward the Barra .. Even in regard to each other's donks in the second vid made by Haltech .. The debate never ends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W30AZY7QEHY&t=985s ... The Barra is a 4.0 the other two are 3.0, this also means the Barra doesn't fit in the same cars.
For example 2JZ in a Toyota 86. Sorry guys but that's the deal breaker when looking for a transplant engine.

Don't mind the BARRA but i still prefer the old INTECH with the dizzy driven oil
pump and greater load bearing timing assembly. |
