You sound “offended” just like Mike_nofx suggested! The world is judgemental mate, sorry it’s a nasty place like that. We all have perceptions and it’s becoming the norm we aren’t allowed to upset others by being judgemental blah blah. Issue is nothing gets resolved in our modern society.. Just enjoy the journey and live your life. You reckon the lads in the 70’s were all hailed legends while driving a Panno with a mural in the side and a few mates in the back hanging at the beach? They were usually labelled surfie drop kicks. Toughen up sip your latte and be happy with life.

Sounds like you’ve got all the gear, good on you. These judgemental guys probably had just one old Panno with side pipes, a mural of Bondi beach on the side, and a few good mates to push the thing when they ran out of petrol coz he didn’t have enough money to fill it up. Wonder who was the happiest? I’m off for a latte

Funny, my understanding of a panel van is a one piece body which is part of the drivers compartment, a bit like all the jokers these days thinking they own a ute which has a tub body outback. The last true utes were XG as they are all of one piece constructed body.
Regarding my converted pantec (box) truck, I'll have to start referring to it as a panel van then according to your logic.

Just a note to all the soy boys out there.
Soy milk was developed to help sufferers who were lactose intolerant way back in the early 70's, Commercially Sanitarium were one of the first to market it. I've been drinking soy since 1974 due to a milk intolerance I developed being forced to drink milk at school.
I better go and sue Carlingford primary for my dilemma.

It was never meant to be a trendy's drink until the weight gym junkies craze of the 90's and because of these pratts I have to pay 50c extra while usually waiting the longest for a coffee.
I feel offended now.

So many memories from camping on the beach to hiding as many people in the back into the drive-in but my best memory would have to be loosing my virginity at a young tender age.

It was easier to hide 'em under the back folding seat of the Kingswood wagon, drive in staff got wise to the panel van trick.

Dad used to hide them behind the bench seat in his f100. Apparently it worked well.

The problem with whipper snappers of today is that they are not like us.

But what do I know?

I'm just a straight, privileged, white, heterosexual, misogynistic, homophobic, racist, cisgenda, manbaby.

I’m here for the alternative milk quips.

Never had a pano but envied those who did! My dirty old EF wagon was my favourite of all my cars.

It wouldn't be fair of me to bring the Fairmont to the strip. Too many people would get chopped.

Cav you left out really good looking

For me the 'top trump car' was either:
1. Any Ferrari
2. Any Panel van ( a good mate had an Escort van)
3. And lastly any car at all that your mum or dad didn't own.
UK
I agree it wasn't safe to travel in the back of a Pvan but boy was it fun

I had one of the guys i work with tell me something that made me feel sympathetic towards one of the young blokes who was given a work van a few weeks back and srill cant drive it because its a manual. Id had that young bloke drive my work car before and he was good on the clutch but no idea about shifting. And the stories i heard about my manager taking him for a lesson in the van he was given painted a picture of an absolute retard. I hadnt driven that van in a while, but when i did last, the clutch was shot, still worked and the pedal felt ok. The guy i was working with today had that van for a few days a month ago when his was at the mechanics, and he tells me it was difficult as the clutch pedal didnt return when you lift your foot, so unless you sit at the lights with the pedal just past the friction point it was a pain to get moving, and sitting with the pedal up that high is uncomfortable. No wonder the young bloke is struggling to drive the piece of crap. Everybody says clutch in and he does that, when they say clutch out he does that but the pedal takes its sweet time to return. The previous bloke who had that van wasnt nice to it in the slightest. Never washed, filthy inside and no panal on it is straight. Not what youd expect from a man in his 60s.

I'm surrounded by young whipper snappers where I work. I'm also surrounded by a bunch of blokes in their late 40's to early 70's of which I'm somewhere in the middle outside of work .

I know which bunch knows more about cars and the joys and frustrations of working on your pride and joy and remembers fondly the thrill of buying that V8 or big 6 sedan , coupe wagon , panel van , ute etc mostly bolted together in this country. Either that or the hotted up Japanese cars .

The fun banter on Bathurst 1000 Day between the Blue Oval and Red Lion crowd and other events may well be lost on the up and coming young whipper snappers in greater numbers as the cars we cherished and lusted after at a similar age disappear from the scene ..
