I guess they can operate both front and back. I recall Original speed cameras in NZ were rear facing. they were large units mounted in the back of Camry wagons, pretty obvious with the hatch up..

To dispel another Myth, they can place a camera at the bottom of a hill.

The camera you're referring to is around the corner from me. Those local to it know the exact spot it sits in every day. The rear facing camera is new from what I can tell.
The spot it sits in is usually 50m after a set of traffic lights (minor T intersection) in a 60km/h zone. As far as I know, there hasn't been any major accidents in that location and there isn't much hooning that goes on to warrant a camera there. According to the link below, this location has been identified by police to be a "speed-related problem site". That is the only reason listed for this camera. Road trauma or public complaints is not listed as a reason in this case. Here is the list of potential mobile camera sites: https://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov...mera-locations

The NSW ones that are owned by Macquarie Bank (that are parked everywhere) are front and rear facing.

I am hoping that they are only checking cars approaching from the rear as the warning signs are usually placed on the same side of the road, beside the footpath, behind the speed camera car. The sign immediately in front of the car just says "your speed has been checked".

Sometimes the wrong car is identified and in Victoria you don't get any compensation for your lost time. The authorities should have to prove who was driving. The owner onus goes totally against our basis of law. Last edited by EBSXR6; 21-03-2019 at 02:55 PM. |

you break the law when you speed, camera cars or not, that is the law. If they weren't complying with the law then they wouldn't have them parked on the side of the road

In Victoria if the vehicle is a company owned then the fine coming the company's way is in excess of $3000, this is set high to encourage companies to hand over offending drivers details and on the whole it seems to be working

Th y have 2 signs before and 1 after. They are calibrated to get the speed and photo between the second sign and the back of the camera car. There are no speed cameras on the front of the NSW mobile speed camera vehicles |

Revenue raising plus PR stunt saying "look at what we are doing to save you". If there is dangerous driving then stop the vehicle then and fine the driver/arrest the driver if extremely dsngerous. With revenue cameras the bad/dangerous then stop it then but no, let it continue as there might be another revenue camera down the road. Anyway, there are ways to defeat these devices.
