Thanks for the background... I was referring to the potential application here. I just cant see for a justification for it here, though its clear there's a need in the UK.

The percentage of diesel vehicles in the UK has been falling rapidly in recent years see https://www.statista.com/statistics/...nited-kingdom/ and https://www.bbc.com/news/business-43655703 They did increase rapidly in the decade prior to 2017 https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...ds-before.html But they are moving to banning all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040 https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-40726868

It all goes back to idiotic decisions to put schools on main thoroughfares and wonder why
the whole thing ends up being a major choke point and dangerous to the very people we should be protecting. Imagine if schools had all been planned to be built away from those main roads, down a side access road. - main road traffic would not be affected by school zones, kids, parents cars and buses. - Buses could drive down to the schools and have their own parking bays and turn around - parents could park off street in a parking lot and not be idling their cars anxiously. - kids could either walk home or cycle along paths. If anyone is to blame for this mess, it's council planners not thinking through their decisions in terms of reducing traffic congestion an danger to the public.. |

Having higher speed limits and mandatory minimums around schools would soon fix that. Officer handing out tickets: "Sorry, you were driving too slow. You in the school zone and have to travel at 100km/h and try and raise the IQ of the nation" (too soon ? always too soon for that joke) |

I had a refreshing moment in peripheral discussions with a social worker today. He told me he’d taken the kids’ online devices away for a week after they became too obsessed with aping the shallow online “lives” of their idols. It’s good to know there are still parents with brains, even if the static seems to often drown out their voices.

The only thing that will change peoples routines is money. Start charging for parking or standing in these areas at drop off and pick up times. Residents get permits the rest pay. Sure they'll winge and bitch but I'll be from a free parking spot at a distance of the school. Its worked with plastic bags, container deposit schemes, increased landfill fees. Money talks bull **** walks.... and so can they.

Why do I need to have one?
I could say have parking on the school grounds, but most of the newer schools around already already have that. The older schools rarely have cars idling nearby as parents park and walk to the school gates to pick up the primary kids. The high schoolers either have their own cars or get on a bus.

We all have differing opinions and that is constructive.
What isn't is not being able to back up said opinion with an alternative, amicable solution. Progress will never be made if we just keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

I thought I mentioned an alternative. May I ask how many kids you have at school and how they get there and back?

In the 12 years I went to school I would say I was dropped off and picked up in a car no more than 5 times. Every other time I walked or rode.
