Hi all
I have a set of wheels that I am thinking of getting drilled to suit 5x114.3 and wanted to see if anyone has had experience with this, as Ive had mixed responses as to whether its doable, or safe to do. From what I have been told they drill the hole a bit bigger on a computer controlled CNC machine, then insert something like a sleeve to correct the holes. Anyone knowledgeable in this area?? |

The hub centre would possibly need to altered too.
Ive seen it done before on alloys but looked pretty obvious, you would really have to like the wheels, as there are so many available that would fit without alterations

It depends what the PCD & centre spigot are currently.

Slotted bolt holes are out everywhere in Oz, and I think "wobble bolts" are subjective.
Depends on the amount you need to shift it - you haven't indicated that. You can't do major circumferential welding except for rim-to-centre. A change of PCD and bolt count usually promulgates a change in load rating of the rim, IOW it theoretically should be engineered. |

The hub hole wont need to be changed, as its an aftermarket wheel I'll have the hub rings also fitted so the weight will be on the hub not the studs. So basically I hadn't done my due diligence and checked when I purchased the wheels, and what I subsequently found out is they were originally a 5x120, then they have been drilled to 5x110. when they drilled the wheels they only drilled out the tapered bit of the original hole and put what looks like a sleeve to bring the hole in, so half the sleeve is against the outer of the original hole. A company that does this has looked at them and said its a straight forward process, they will drill out the sleeve of the 5x110 hole, and re-sleeve it to 5x114.3. I asked if it was safe and they said if it wasn't they wouldn't touch it. Ive done a fair bit of googling on the topic, many have said its not safe, but haven't done it themselves, those that say they've had it done say they've not had an issue.
So wanted to see if anyone here has had holes drilled and sleeved and had any dramas! |

Another option is a bolt on Hub spacer, which allows a stud pattern change. this however will change your offset buy at least 25mm

Unfortunately wont work as the wheels offset will have them just in the guard by about 5mm!! so a spacer will push them out too far!

I believe you could sell the wheels to someone that has that PCD, and purchase some that correctly fits your 114.3 PCD Cheers, |

I don’t know about the ACT but as of 25 February 2019 is was still illegal in NSW not that that would ever stop some people doing a wide range of mods. To quote the NSW Government Transport Roads & Maritime Services Vehicle Standards Information No. 9 – Guidelines for alternative wheels and tyres: Quote:
Make sure the rims are given a good refurbish job so the coating well and truly hides the re-sleeving otherwise I'd suspect an insurance assessor would baulk if the vehicle was ever involved in an accident claim. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents...eels-tyres.pdf .
