Default Mondeo finished in Aust

I heard a little rumor going around that Mondeo is going to be deleted from Fords lineup later in the year...

Sad given what a great car it is!

Sign of the times with low sales and falls in the Aussie dollar I would say.

I read that it’ll be a diesel base model in hatch / wagon only? Was in the comments section of a CarAdvice article, not sure of the legitimacy of the comment.

Yes until Christmas then that model will be deleted too. (Trying to do the right thing by fleet customers and giving them time to find an alternative).

I've heard Ford will offer Ambiente spec only, going forward. Some rumors that we might even see the eight speed auto and EcoBlue engine introduced.
The new Ford Endura has this combination. Saw one at the dealer this week. Front instruments / steering wheel / door & headlight controls are the same as Mondeo. Made in Canada.

Do I correctly infer from this that FordOz have already stopped importing the Titanium spec cars?

If they have I might have to alter my changeover planning.

Cheers,

Cheers,

You and me both. I was planning on buying an updated MD Titanium next year.

I'll be having a very close look at the Skoda Superb now as I won't be purchasing any type of SUV.

I will be keeping my 2015 MD Trend Hatch for my wife.

No more Trend / Titanium, other then what is in stock.

I doubt there would be many Titanium's left.

@AlanD, DougalXR6 -
Check with your dealer, they may be able to special order the Titanium. At least that's what was claimed in the comment I read on some CarAdvice article (likely the same one @dannyhilton mentioned seeing).

Thanks Mondaveo,

May be possible, but, I suspect, a very expensive option that would put it well above our likely budget.

Our current car is an ex FordOZ executive vehicle which we obtained at close to $20,000 below the retail new on road cost - given that sort of depreciation it's not likely I will ever drive another brand new vehicle.

I understand the economics from FordOz's point of view, but this decision is going to lose them a long term customer, I suspect.

Two of our neighbours have recently moved to Skoda Octavia Wagons and seem to be happy about that - having travelled in one of them it looks like a contender.

Cheers

The last episode of The Grand Tour for 2019 (S03E14) was on the same subject - that it looked like the Mondeo was not-long-of-this-world in the UK either.

Totally agree with these comments. My insurance company provided a Hertz rental after my Mondeo was involved in a crash. For a 1.4 turbo, they go really well. The seven speed auto was perfectly matched. On a country trip, I was getting flat 5's per 100. Was surprised to see features like adaptive cruise included. And the sound system... felt like the Mondeo had no treble or bass when I got back in it. Most of the under bonnet items were tagged VW & Audi.
They are basically a Czechoslovakian built VW. Would totally recommend, but for the first 100,000 k's only.

Have to say it's shame to see the Mondeo finish. Ford will now now longer offer a sedan for the Australian market.

We had a MC Titanium hatch with the EcoBoost engine. This was a car that drove in a way that belied it's size. Highlights for me were the excellent front seats (firm but very comfortable for long distances), the huge boot space and the standard technology for the time. This car was an excellent long distance road trip car, clearly designed for high speed euro roads.

The Ford Mondeo....... a great car that know body knew about.

Its excellent on fuel and has all the tech / comfort of a Mercedes.

That’s a shame. I have owned an MC and now an MD Mondeo both great cars. The only downside has been the resell after a few years.

I read that Ford are going to stop making cars, just SUV's in future. Difficult to believe they would do that in Europe.

The depreciation on the Mondeo is a killer though. My new MB lost about 70% of its value in 4 years, so I kept it instead of buying another. Still going strong at 8 years old.

Might look for a used MD soon. I will never buy anything made by the VAG group after Dieselgate.
