Hi Guys,
My Dad has a XR8 Rebel Series II I am looking to change shockies to Koni and the front are all the same across the range however the rears are a problem due to the IRS. I know and have heard that there are people running Koni Reds or Yellows at the rear but I can't find the part numbers. And there website is incorrect. The rounded buttom shock only fits solid axle. The IRS version has a arch clamp {C Bracket or whatever it's called} See Pic. So I am after anyone that has fitted Koni to the rear what are the part number? The Front is correct but I can't find the rear and Koni are interchangeable with alot of cars so there must be one that fits. Keen for Reds or Yellow Cheers!

The internally adjustable Koni's reds were factory fitted to the T1, T2 and T3 TE50 and TS50 were they not?

Also have them in my Ute. For some people they might be considered a bit harsh or stiff but they can be set to soft. I have them slightly up on soft and handling is very predictable point and shoot. Ute handles great yellow up front and reds in rear. Simple bolt in out operation although good time to get camber and alignments etc done. As Falcons love eating their tyres for lunch.

Looking into shock replacement for the young fella's S2 XR6 with IRS and have been informed by Koni supplier Toperformance that they no longer manufacture the rears with all stock being exhausted. The fronts (yellow) will need the front brake line bracket supplied separately (an additonal $15 dollars for each bracket) and welded in place prior to fitment (so you burn off the nice paint work you paid for).
Bilsteins want $1500 for the rears as they too have exhausted stock and no longer make the rears so they will be a custom/one off make. Looking at Gabriel at the moment. If anyone here has any further information that does differ from the above, please post accordingly thank you. Recommendations welcome. Cheers. J.C. |

Day to day driving the Gabriels will do the job.
Used them for years on varying vehicles.

Righto!
Have replaced the front struts with Gabriels. All sweet! Removed one of the rears and dissembled it. No problems there. Aligned the old verse new side by side and the new one is approximately an inch or two longer. Figured I assemble it with the new one to see how much of an issue I was going to have to deal with. Pretty much knew the outcome, that being the spring, once released, was going to be loose. I wasn't let down with the spring being loose and not seated on the strut. Wasn't going to fit it like that as it was just wrong so I reinstalled the original strut and refitted it back into the vehicle. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this same problem with Gabriel IRS rear struts. Please note that the car is not lowered, has just ticked over 100 thou and has the original OEM product installed (Ford stamped struts). Have touched base with Gabriel and there supplier. Waiting on some sort of reply. Last edited by J.C.; 22-06-2019 at 01:35 PM. |

Just an update on the above.
Gabriel customer support have been excellent. I have been liaising with them and have sent pictures so they can see what I am dealing with. It's got us stumped but Gabriel have not given up and are looking into this as they have never come across this issue with their product or at least it hasn't been reported and documented. Original lower coil mount/anchor point. https://postimg.cc/877bkSdH Gabriel lower coil mount/anchor point. https://postimg.cc/CzPNV185 Note the difference in the location of the mount between the two. Like I have said, they haven't given up so hats off to them and credit where due. Not here to bag the product as I do feel it is a superior product to others out there in the market. From their research, it was noted that other manufacturers have the anchor point in the same location as theirs yet the OEM is different by approximately 90 degrees.
