So as some of you may have seen in my build thread, I have bought a double DIN headunit with rear camera capability.
What I would like to know is where others have mounted their camera, what type of camera, what model etc. I would also like to know where you spliced the reverse trigger wire into the cars reverse wiring etc. Basically, I’d love to get some tips on what I need to do to mount the camera and get it work g as it should with the headunit. In the interim, I have bought this camera just to see what the cheapies are like - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F222991530943 Any help is much appreciated!

The Ebay listing is somewhat confusing (to me at least) - is it a front or rear view camera?
Use a front on the back, or a rear on the front, and left and right will be reversed. |

I bought one these...
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/p...reverse-camera I drilled a large hole in underside of the plastic garnish. I had to use a spacer that I made out of some spare perspex as the lip of the garnish obscured the camera view. Unless you are looking for it you barely notice it there. I'll take a couple of pics tomorrow if you like. |

Don't forget to check what video formats the headunit supports - most likely PAL (Aust) and NTSC (US) together.

Yes I'll admit the ebay item isn't the best, but for $18 it's worth experimenting with. Headunit is NTSC and PAL.
PG, some pics would be appreciated, thank you. Where did you tap into the reverse light signal?

It is worth playing with, but as I say, they're unclear whether it's a rear or front.
Be wise too to check what the camera operating voltage is - 5v or 12v. Obviously power a 5v camera off 12v and you'll fry it. Falcon reverse light lines are usually red/black, so tap in anywhere close. You don't seem to like my posts, so I'll leave it at that - best of luck with it all. |

All valid points. Seems the ebay camera is 12v, as too are the others I have been checking out as well. The only concern I have with the ebay jobbies are whether the imagine quality will be ay good - they give the resolution specs in the advert, but who knows what's likely to turn up. Shall wait and see I guess.
Unsure what you mean by not liking your posts, but either way, I appreciate your input.

I've got one of these mounted above the Rear Number Plate on my XR6.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pioneer-...frcectupt=true Works real well, especially at night with the very bright AU Reverse Lights. |

depending on the head unit, it may pay to power the camera up all the time, and use the reverse signal to trigger the head unit. I have done this in my 4wd and i can trigger the rear cam, from the head unit menu when i want to

Yes good point. I was going to do that with the forward facing camera, but hadn't considered it for the rear. It could be handy having a view from the rear independant to using reverse gear.
Thanks for the idea!
