Last week i took the head off my car, took it to the mechanics to get shaved and presure tested when I got it back the cam was of it and the mechanic said that I should squeeze the oil out of the lashers before i put the the rockers back on, so I did. I finnaly started the motor last night and the lashers are very noisy and the noise wont go away.
Does this mean that I have to take the rockers off pull the lashers out and bleed the air out of them or would I have to buy new ones? |

It can take a good 10 minutes for the lifters or lashers to fill with oil and quieten down. When I put a motor together I leave the rocker cover off and take the sparkplugs out and disconnect the coil and then crank the motor by the starter motor until I see oil coming out of the top end. It might take a couple of batterys to get the oil to appear, but I think its the best way as it allows you to make sure everything is ok before starting the motor.

u'll only see oil coming out the top of the rocker gear (the hole above the lifter)
if u rev the engine a tad it'll spray even more. they'll tick for a while but if they're getting plenty of oil it should go away.

It won't do any harm to run the engine with them full of air, it's just the same as having too much valve clearance on a fixed tappet engine.

Last night when I got home I started it up and let it run for a while, after a few minutes the lashers quieten down a fair bit but one of them needed to be replaced so I put a new one in and LIMITED EDITION its running really smooth now.
Thanx for all of your help. |

I have changed cam twice now and I been lucky enought not to have any lifter noise. The first time I took the lifters apart, cleaned them with carby cleaner, and then put them back together in a container of oil so they were already primed. The second time a billet cam went in and I suppose the lifters were not out long enough to bleed dry.
