Fairlane Millenium vs Sportsman vs 75th

Hey Guys,

Looking at buying a Fairlane and there were 3 editions on the base Ghia and was hoping for some help. Millenium, Sportsman, and 75th Anniversary.

Seen a few for sale on the editions, but mainly the sportsman.

From what info I can find, all seem mechanically the same as the Ghia in V8 or I6.

Was it just the badging? All had Howe leather seats? Was there mats for each Car? The Millenium had floor mats and Front sets badged, but the 75th Anniversary only had the seats and ghia mats. Don't thnk the sportsman seats were badged at all.

Anyone know of any other differences? any Tickford options that could have been added?

Sportsman was an LTD with 'sports' suspension.

standard features over ghia were...

-Memory coded drivers seat.
-LTD howe leather interior
-3.45 LSD
-Sports suspension (different shock/spring package)
-momo wood grain steering wheel
-unique 17 inch 225/50/17 tyres and rims
-unique 2 tone paint, delete option

Just a beautiful vehicle, remember ours having the optional factory sunroof and being the one colour... meteorite grey.

Thanks. But info seems wrong. 75th. I have never seen a rear spoiler on a Fairlane at all. Sure on the Fairmont Ghia. Also seats were Howe leather and 75th embossed. We're there floor mats? Didn't the 75th also have the memory seats?

We're the sportsman seats embossed? The link said they had floor mats. We're they like the millenium mats or just Ghia mats?

Just like to know what I'm looking for. Stickler for original cars.

No mention of sports suspension in the Sportsman brochure. Are you able to elaborate on the shock/spring package ?

The Sportsman suspension is basically the lowered XR suspension with shocks to suit the slightly heavier car.




To the OP, it would seem to me that the Millennium and 75th got a few of the additions each but the Sportsman got them all, apart from the monogrammed seat backs of co****. Given a choice I'd always take the Sportsman personally, but I'm biased.

All I know is that they were a touring shocker/spring assembly just like the later G6E. They definitely handle better than the regular run of the mill.

Miss the old METEORITE girl with factory sunroof.
It was parked outside werribee Ford last time i saw it 7 years ago, 260,000km and still looked good!!

I have an AUII Fairlane Sportsman

The two tone paint someone mentioned was on the last of the AUs.

In essence, take some good bits from an LTD and throw them at the Fairlane.

The Howie leather seats you get in the LTD are white but in the Sportsman they are black.

Mine has the Tickford 6 and it would be worth between $3,000 and $5,000 and it is in immaculate condition. A V8 on the other hand is a seller's dream. There's one for sale for $40,000!

I bought my Sportsman because I wanted luxury and comfort. I still enjoy driving the car except if I want to take it downtown and try and park it somewhere there are marked parking bays. The car is very long.

I doubt I will get rid of my Sportsman anytime soon. That Tickford 6 will probably outlast the rest of the car.

Mine has covered 190,000kms and it is still on the original transmission although I had a full transmission fluid flush at about 150,000 kms. Gee that automatic transmission fluid is expensive.

It has no rust. It has one of those rust inhibitor thingies that have been declared useless, but I wouldn't disconnect mine.

The rear electric aerial should fully retract. If it doesn't then it has a non-standard aerial.

My clock still works, but the time is never correct.

I have 18 inch FG XR Falcon rims on mine which does mean the ride has more impact harshness but I am prepared to put up with that because I think they look great.

I dug a brochure out.

Mine has a fake wood headlight switch cover. This is not shown in the brochure and in most LTDs the switch surround is also black.

Trainspotters rave about my headlight switch surround.

Cav your car looks to sit lower than mine.
I have two aerial pics here. The black car is my TL with factory aerial and the blue car is the Sportsman with an aerial that was fitted by JB and the half height setting works as it should

Problems with the pics. Ill get back to this tomorrow after I enlist some help

Most likely the same touring spec as the Ghia.

The Sportsman brouchure above does not mention any change to suspension though

With the BA if you optioned 17inch wheels the sports suspension was mandatory?

Ok here we go. I used to use photobucket but changed to imgur and the pics have to be downsized manually whereas photobucket did it automatically





Until I got this car I was unaware that you could get an aerial that would fit as genuine is NLA. There is barely any difference in the way it sits when retracted

CONGO green is my favourite AU colur, very understated in dim light but when in bright sunlight the emerald overtones are just magic.

I'm like a storm chaser these days, puts a smile on my face when i see any of these cars on the road.

This one is no exception and definitely low build <100.... 300 in total??
