A. Kneejerk reaction,reduce speed to 20kph
B. Have another inquiry
C. Install cable barrier which was probably recomended WAY before 6 people were killed. Their respective families should now get together to sue RTA.

Very simple solution to speed related accidents. We have GPS, we have data logging ECU's. Taxi's (well my Dad's anyway) uses both of these and feeds back data real time to his boss, who has picked him up many a time, doing the wrong speed at the wrong place. It doesn't cost too much to install these in a car, nor too much more to put them in new cars at the factory.

Outcome is - you will get a fine the second you speed - therefore, no one who doesn't have money to blow will speed. And you can't put a price on safety...but the government won't like this idea, because that means no more revenue... the same reason they won't ban smoking...too much taxes and revenue they profit off.

The only problem, and it is a serious one that this 'cure' simply cannot fix, is that 80% of crashes occur BELOW the applicable speed limit.

The issue is 'speed related' crashes, these can be under or over a speed limit. The speed limit itself only represents the maximum legal speed allowed, NOT that it is safe to do so. It, the limit, represents the point at which enforcement is guarateed to take place, it is much harder to action speeds below the limit, here the issue is police resourcing.

Being conditioned to the posted speed limit is deadly, I call it 'speed limit conditioning', followed fanatically by people who cannot think for themselves by very simply adjusting their speed to suit the prevailing road and weather conditions.

Deesun - you will see - median barrier *will* be installed.

# Every 22 minutes somebody is killed or seriously injured on Australia's roads.
# For every Australian who has died in war, almost two Australians have died in road crashes.
# Road crashes cost the community $41 million every day - the equivalent of $750 per Australian per year. BTRE 2004.
