Very much like the Falcon ads from about 2006.
No-one sees them, no-one buys them, Ford then drops vehicle because of low sales, no sales, no-one notices, job done.

Escape is in run out new model soon suspect Ford will briefly advertise the new model Escape.
Focus with be withdrawn from the Aus market in 2021. The plan for Focus recently saw Ambiente Trend and Ststion wagons no longer bring imported. Active and St Line will be stopped in Quarter 1 or 2 next year. St line might continue.

And by reducing their range of models Ford can reduce advertising and marketing cost and reduce ‘complexity’’.
Fords plan works do well that the most popular thread on Ford Forums is about would you buy a Kia?

Come on... We get told repeatedly that advertising $$$ has no impact or correlation to sales, focus, fiesta, escape, endura etc, no advertising and bugger all sales,
Ranger - regular ads and bugger me, sales !

Remember it's all about the bigger profit margin in smaller sales that matters. Wonder how much of the rangers profits get eaten by advertising costs?

Well in all fairness, most of us on here would only buy a ranger or a stang from the current range.

Why spend big money on tv advertising?

It's 2020, not 1920.

Interestingly the time when a "salesman" was in charge of the place...Geoff Polites.

I'm not a marketing guru however I would think that rather than a massive media blitz, I'd offer 1% finance (or 0% if Ford can afford it) on a fixed price drive away deal, no haggle with only negotiation on a trade-in if there is one. Finance is cheap for a company like Ford, and the 1-2% it would cost them shouldn't be any more expensive than a large media marketing campaign.

When the new Escape arrives, start with an "early launch edition special".

And they must add other hybrid versions, just not the PHEV.

To be fair, no one yet has specifically mentioned tv.

I get that advertising in 2020 is very different to, say, 10 or 20 years ago. But, I rarely see any advertising (across all mediums) from Ford. Admittedly, I don't watch a huge amount of FTA nor do I watch a lot of online streaming etc.

I still think that Ford does suffer from a lack of advertising. Not sure how effective it is in this day and age, but they certainly don't reach this audience member.

are you in the market to buy a ford?

marketing is very different these days. i see very few toyota ads anywhere as well.

the way search algorithms work means that advertising often is tailored. If i browse carsales for a bit, the next few days car ads will appear on my google pages or home pages.

I don't see them advertising any less than other brands really. TV is dying so it can't all be about TV ads anymore.

I'd expect to see new Escape ads when it is released soon though.

So, I have to be in the market for a new Ford to see Ford's advertising? That makes no sense. If I'm already in the market for a new Ford, I'd simply go to their website to get some details. Advertising is about getting people interested in your product, not about informing the person who already knows about your product.

I'm not in the market for a Jeep or a Toyota or a Holden either, but I still see their advertising. Regularly.

I take it you don't watch much FTA then? As little as I watch, I still see heaps of these lately :

I spend a lot of time on AFF, Carsales, Supercars websites (amongst others) and I do visit the Ford website on the odd occasion and I don't appear to be targeted by any Ford ads. Can't say I've noticed being targeted by any brand, really.

Again, I get that tv advertising is not necessarily the way things are done these days, but just because Ford are not advertising on tv doesn't mean they are advertising through other mediums.

So, how many of those ads you get after visiting the Carsales pages are Ford, Rob? My gut feel is very few, if any.

My folks recently bought a new car. They rarely watch tv or spend much time browsing the internet. They are late 60's early 70's. They aren't really car people either.

They knew their budget and roughly what type of car they needed and jumped on the internet and started doing their research.

I would imagine this is how a large percentage of car buyers do things. I doubt many people are actually influenced by an advert. It might help to keep a brand front and centre but most would still shop around.

True,

most shoppers shop on price with content.

Some shoppers shop on a product they just want.

Ford don’t do credit in house anymore, haven’t done since the old “ford credit” days.

So... is advertising replaced with the need to have a good review on Carsguide/Car Expert/Car Advice and also good reports on Product Review?
That kind of thing.

If I upgraded new, I'd do exactly the same as your parents. And there might be subconscious messages out there in society that influence me too, like "Toyotas are reliable and have good resale" - true or no.

I understand that Ranger is the biggest seller but maybe if they advertised some of the other vehicles they may have a chance against some of the other similar options from the other manufactures.

I'm not sure how much Ford puts into advertising but if it were me I'd focus my money on priority areas - I doubt advertising a Mustang would make much of a difference yet the 4wd dual cab market is extremely strong and competitive.
