Rear bearings don't need to be pressed in. They are a known weak point in the car and I changed them several times myself.

Can't help you with the workshop manual.

If it's the 1.5L you got hopefully its the 16v model. They had a short run of 16v twin cam engines in 97-98 and you could really feel the extra kw.

Sadly in 99 they didn't feel so generous and went back to the lower output 1.5.

The wheel bearing in the drum are just a cone type bearing where you need to punch the cone out, then do up the nut with some pre-load similar to early Falcon front wheel bearing. The nut also is LH thread and you need to punch the end of the nut into the locking position when the preload is set.

Per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Festiva

Although it has a Mazda derived motor, it's more a Kia than a Mazda

Quote:
Second generation (WB, WD, WF; 1993–2000)
The second model Ford Festiva was jointly developed between Kia and Ford, retaining most of the drivetrain of the previous model with a more rounded body style. This new Festiva was slightly longer, wider, more aerodynamic, and suspended by MacPherson struts in the front and a torsion beam axle in the rear. While it was sold in certain markets as a second generation Festiva, Ford renamed it the "Aspire" in North American markets, where the five-door model was offered for the first time. In South Korea, the car was badged "Kia Avella". The sedan version was mainly restricted to the South Korean market, although it was also available with Festiva badging in Taiwan.

Depending on the market, some retained the SOHC, throttle-body injected motor, while others received an engine with a DOHC cylinder head and MPI also designed by Mazda. These engines were:
B3 EGi: 1.3 L (1,323 cc) fuel injected 8-valve I4 making 63 hp (47 kW) at 5000 rpm and 74 lb⋅ft (100 N⋅m) at 3000 rpm
B5 EGi: 1.5 L (1,498 cc) fuel injected 16-valve I4 making 88.4 hp (66 kW) at 5000 rpm and 99 lb⋅ft (134 N⋅m) at 4000 rpm (Asia and Oceania only)

Some parts and the tag has Kia motors written on it so does that mean some kia’s from that will fit and how do I go about finding out what Mazda parts would be equivalent ?

Very easy to do, below is the image of all the components. Have you done front wheel bearings on a pre AU Falcon, because it is very much the same process. I have the workshop manual, just trying to find it so I can get you the instructions rather than writing them step by step.

And yes the vehicle is Kia not Mazda based. You should see Kia on the ID tag on the firewall.

They don't reference the 1.5L engine downgrade for the 99 model.

12v, 57kW and 115Nm if I recall? That's what mine had.

Shame they never kept it till the end - drove the 98 model with the HO engine and it bloody flew compared to mine.

16% more power and torque

They are dead easy to work on. Loved the fact I could change the front pads, rear bearings and fuel filter with just the tools I had lying around.

I tried to do the diesel filter on my i30 and gave up - it's well buried below lots of tubes and wires, need to remove this, loosen that etc.... Why??

Check rego papers or VIN??

B13 (1.3) and B15 (1.5) were the letters they used.

It would also say it on the rego papers as their CC equivalent.

That seems odd? What state are you in? In NSW rego papers state engine capacity.
