Smile Front and Rear Dash Cam

Haven't been successful in finding a thread on the topic so decided to start one.

I'm interested in installing a front and rear dash cam to my Falcon.

Looking for recommendations and pros/cons.

Budget limit of no more than $500. I will install myself.

No preference at this stage as I've only just started looking but open to suggestions.

Cheers all.

Dashcam Owners Australia have the Street Guardian on sale for $469.

I would strongly suggest shopping around. When comparing various models, note the model number and look for some raw footage on youtube for that particular model. In particular, how the unit performs at night.

I have a Blackvue 750 (Front only) in my Renault and more than happy with it.

Autobarn has the Front & Back Combo for $497 at the moment (32GB).
Note : this excludes the Power Kit if you want permanently wired to battery.

I use a DOD LS360W, it's pretty old now so there are better models out but I haven't ever had trouble with it, even when the car gets hot.

Here's the video quality but keep in mind that it's been compressed for upload to the 'net so the actual clarity was a lot better.

Does anyone have any feedback on the BlackVue DR750S-2CH?

Found it for less than $500 on sale at a different dash cam site.

An acquaintance has had several Blackvue twin channel cameras. As an IT person he had some misgivings about the security of data they created, starting from an upgrade to the DR-650 and onwards. I don’t know how he resolved this, or if it has since been addressed; it’s something many people probably couldn’t care about anyhow.

At $500 they are definitely tempting. I’d personally like a three channel camera, with one recording the driver’s hands/actions.

I have a Navman Mivue 800 Dual and it's the best out of the handful of dash cams I've had. Had it for years with no issues, but I'm sure there's better quality ones out these days.

Bit the bullet and ordered the Blackvue 750S-2CH.

$497 express post delivered was too good to pass up.
Will post findings in a few weeks once I install them.
Might post instal pics as well if I remember to take some.

Fortunately never needed my dashcam for insurance/accident information.
although I caught a Holden having a spin out on dash cam last year.

I still wonder why dash cams haven't been offered as a factory option or even just standard fitment (maybe they are and I haven't seen it). Couldn't they record from parking/reverse camera's on to an internal HDD hidden in the dash somewhere.

Also though insurance companies may offer some form of discount for having one fitted, similar to a safe driving course discount. I suppose it could work for the insurance company some times but also work against them at times.

keen to hear the review as I'm interested in a forward/rear camera

I have had 2 Blackvue 2CH over the years, last one I bought was 2018.
Not the cheapest out there but good quality.
I did find the need to change default focus though

Dashcams turned up yesterday.
Packaged well and the free chupachup was a nice touch.
Unfortunately due to back to back race weekends there won’t be any installation for some time to come

I just want cannons that fire suction-tipped darts with a fluoro pennant that unfurls to read “I drive like a ****”

Then again, a camera might be handy to record reactions.

Aldi have the cheap dash cams this week, 2 channel with reverse trigger wire for $79…
