Is there a way to distinguish if my zf is a turbo or an Na

Hi guys,
I recently purchased an FG XR6 turbo motor and along with it came a zf that was not attached and out of a different vehicle. I was told it was out of another turbo car he had but I don't particularly believe him due to the fact all of the stickers have been removed. So essentially is there a way to work out if it's a Na or turbo box without cracking it open to view clutch packs?

Are there any stamped serial numbers? Or something else that could identify it?

By stickers do you mean the id plate is missing?

Isn't the zf in the turbo made in Germany, and the one in the NAs made in China?

If XR Martin is correct, the prefix or something may designate the country of origin ?

Only for FG-X. All the autos before that were made in germany, but switched to the Chinese made HP21 for NA FG-X's, with the turbo and v8 auto's staying made in germany.

So potentially, he could still have a N/A box made in Germany ?

Would the barcode help, or could that change with manufactured year ?

Yes could still be a german made NA box. Barcode is only good if it can be read by someone who knows what info it can give.

I'd try contacting ZF Australia and give them the serial numbers and see if they can help.

Highly unlikely anyone outside ZF would be able to interpret those numbers. You will need to contact ZF Australia and they might be able to tell you what they mean.

Pretty sure that the only difference between the FG/X ZF 6HP26 fitted in the Turbo, V8 or NA is the size and Nm rating of the torque convertor.

Higher rating torque convertor, 280mm 297Nm in the Turbo and V8, and 260mm 278Nm in the NA.

No it's not. The turbo and V8 boxes have extra clutch packs to start with.

Hi,
Did you figure it out with a phone call?

Otherwise, you should be able to plug in the engine harness to it, connect a ELM327 adapter to the CAN pins, (via a spare OBD plug), power up the TCM inside the trans with 12V, and use Forscan to read out the VIN. Then you can ask a Ford dealer which vehicle it came out of.

6HP26 were for V8 and Turbo's and German as some have said

There was a difference in the bell housing between the turbo and 8
