Could it be a sticky lifter? Is it misfiring?
I had a loud tick in a Cleveland years ago and that's what it was. Used a bottle of additive to help free lifters and it stopped for about the next 5 years. |

Or forgot that the oil was drained.
He or someone else(they didn't know there was no oil) started the car and caused BBQ inside the engine... Was the car ticking before? I would take it back and get them to fix it. Last edited by gkhn; 01-09-2020 at 07:47 PM. |

I’d say a sticky lifter is causing the ticking and valve stem seals are causing the smoke on start up. Amusingly my XH started doing both more or less out of the blue, although the LiquiMoly and Risolene oil additives to help cure both have made some difference, at least with the lifter noise on start up.

Hi sulzy.
Agree with the above. Does sound like sticking HLA's. How many K's on the engine ? What oil is it currently using ? You could try this. Some people have seen an improvement. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...ml/104058.html Cheers. |
