Hi everyone. Just picked up my Ford with Sync 3. Paired my android 7.1 phone via Bluetooth with the car. I tried to search for apps with apps running but 'No Apps Found'. I only want to use google map or waze. Anyone knows the solution? Thank you.

I don't have a Sync 3 fitted car but wouldn't you need to connect by usb or does Google offer wireless Android auto while Apple Carplay is by usb-only connection?

You need Android Auto and it needs to be connected by USB cable. Sync 3 only supports a very limited number of apps by bluetooth.

Why would you need google maps if you have sync 3's navigation system?
PS how do you do those exclamation marks on your post, id like to use it someday for an urgent post....

Only problem is that when using Android Auto or Apple Carplay requiring the phone to be usb plugged in you cannot revert to the Sync's satnav with disconnecting the mobile....dumb I know...

Otherwise, Waze WILL NOT appear on the car infotainment screen.. Only the phone screen. You can check which version of Sync 3 you have by going into the GENERAL settings on your infotainment screen. I picked up my new 2017 Mustang 2 weeks ago which has SYNC 3, and when I checked the version it was only Version 2.2, updated on Feb 2018. I am currently in the process of updating my Sync 3 to version 3.0. To do this, you MUST first set up your account, with car and VIN on the Australian Ford owners site. Then through the site, you can request the latest Sync 3 version which is V3.0. They send you a link to download the zipped files... Taking 30 minutes as it is over 2GB on ADSL2. You must then expand the zipped files to a USB stick of greater capacity than 8GB. You then plug the USB stick with the unzipped files into the USB port in your car. It can take up to 30 minutes to update... The update will start automatically. You MUST leave your engine running the whole time during the update as well, according to Ford's instructions. (Check Sync 3 - Tech Support "how to's" on the Ford owners site). In modern Fords, if the battery level drops to around 11.8 volts, it will automatically turn off the accessories and the infotainment system, thus why you need to leave the engine running so the battery is charged. If you don't leave the engine running, and the update fails because the battery shuts down... You are stuffed, and will need to take your car to Ford to reinstall the Sync system! |

As "sixman" mentioned... You need to connect your phone via the USB port for the apps to work. Bluetooth connection is only for phone calls. |

I just checked it on youtube and found I only need to unzip the original zipped file. And then copy & paste those three files into the usb, which are SyncMyRide, autoinstall & DONTINDX. I'll see how it goes and report back.

Just like their new Australian Mustang "owners manuals"... Full of mistakes! I can see a lot of less technical or non-computer literate consumers having heaps of problems. Ford tell you to unzip all the files, but that information is 100% completely wrong. I did that, then took the USB stick and plugged it into the car... And it would not work. You have got it right when you only have the 3 files, and all the main files are in the "SyncMyride" folder and left zipped up. I need to work for Ford... They need a technical writer and someone with common sense to explain things properly to lay people. I just updated my Sync 3 to version 3.0 this evening. I used a fast USB 3.0 stick and it took nearly 30 minutes with the engine left running... It was a success! Now here's the important part that Ford doesn't explain or even tell you! After the Sync upgrade is complete and you get the message that the update is completed on the screen... DON'T REMOVE the USB STICK straight away! The system will then write a file back to the USB stick. (To confirm you should now have 9 files in the 'SyncMyRide" folder instead of the original 8 zipped files you started with.) The newly written file is "Sync_WW60G2DQ_1FA6P8THXH5337110.xml" ... The actual name of the file may differ depending on your model car, etc. Now... You need this file because you need to upload it back to Ford Australia to confirm that you have successfully upgraded your Sync 3 as they requested in the email they sent you when you first requested the update files. You report the successful installation through the Ford Owner's site after you log in, and it will ask you to upload the file from the USB stick. The purpose of this reporting is that they then know what Sync 3 version your car now has, so they can email and notify you when further updates to Sync 3 become available. P.S. - I now have a new degree... Bs (Bachelor of Sync) Last edited by GO FURTHER; 21-06-2018 at 08:33 PM. |

Hi all,
Thanks to Go Further for detailing the update process - and apologies for resurrecting an older thread. I have a couple of questions; 1. I understand the need for keeping the car battery above the threshold voltage - although, speaking a technical person, I am amazed that the programming can not over-ride the shutdown process of the infotainment system whilst the update proceeds - but the question is will the update start without the engine running and if the answer is yes, why not simply connect a battery charger during the update? Avoids filling your garage/shed with noxious fumes? Although I note from the Ford Owners site that you can use the car normally once the process starts but some functions are not available. I wonder if you follow this path it would be wise to turn off the automatic engine stop/start function? 2. I expect that Waze gathers data about route problems by use of the cellular network and here the question is: Is such data free of charges (In the case of one Navigator company the call charges used to be picked up by the company - I don't know if this is still true) - and a supplementary: Is the mapping database held in the phone after the app is downloaded or does it rely on a continuing data stream over the cell network as you travel? Thanks to anyone who can throw some light on these questions. Cheers

Old thread renewal - OK so I can use Sync 3 on the phone and android only when my phone is plugged in - android note 10 + 5G my understanding is this "should" work via bluetooth by clicking on the Sync Find my Apps box if they are running on my phone
Which they won't do...........is there something I'm missing?? I like Waze because the darn Sync 3 nav system has no camera alerts on it which is a darn shame, and I need those pesky alerts in Vic cos I'm new and haven't as yet figured them all out! Anyway I'll check what version is on the car it's a 2018 version so hopefully running 3.0 if not I've found my next project! |

So running Sync V3 and can confirm Bluetooth on Android will NOT work regardless of apps running on the phone or not.
Will work when connected by cable - not sure of there is any solution for this but yep only works when plugged in |

Android Wireless is only available on selected vehicle manufacturers at present. Unfortunately Ford is not one of them.

I have read reports of updating to v3.4 with success, but some with a few bugs too. It was also indicated you cannot revert back to v3.0. I considered it and weighing up what it offered I decided not to proceed. Car is under warranty still and 3.4 is not Ford Australia endorsed.

Just checked which version I had on my April delivered Mustang, v3.4. Wonder if you can now get an update from the dealer for those on earlier versions.

I've decided to hold fire on the update as I've managed to get the test screen running and like the Lincoln screen so I now flick that on when I'm using non waze maps. Also I'm clocking up Kms faster than I had anticipated so the 15k service is about only 6 months away at the rate I'm driving the car so if Ford are doing an update I'd prefer not to stuff the system!

So I managed to get the new update from Ford multiple times and every download was corrupted and wouldn't extract so................
I ended up updating from Cyanlabs and - yep everything worked fine followed the instructions as per the forums am now on 3.4. Initially navigation won't start but did a master reset and also parked the car got out for 5 min re-started the car and maps was back running. Now about to connect the cell phone and see if waze will display inside the drivers dash. Not really a massive difference a little different layout but it does the same thing. |
