Was in South Africa last year, saw the odd one.
Also saw a HT or HK model Holden in the distance. They had lots of cars from Oz and UK that were different from the local market, such as the V8 Capri, etc. and of course the Rhino.

There's lots of small sedan based utes that Aussie's don't know about. Mainly for either the South African and/or the South American markets (Brazil, Chile etc). A surprising number based on Euro platforms (VW, Fiat and the like)
E.g. Volkswagen Saveiro Here's the Ford Courier from Brazil (1998–2013)

Yes, saw them when I was in ZA.
Took a snap of it, obviously didn't know of the engine setup but had to look twice as I never knew they existed either.

A few of them have made it over to Aus then had Windsor V8's stuffed into them. I'm a bit biased but I love the Mk3 TC/D shape and the Bakkies have always been on my wanted list.

The South Africans made them utes up.
In Australia if we were to make the Cortina ute such would of cost more than a Falcon ute, or so near that it would not be worthwhile. not to mention even from a 4 cyl position one would be a crap ute. Australia exported HR Holden Premiers to SA and SA made HR Holden's as well with a Chev 194ci 6 cyl in them, the radiator was fitted to the outside of the panel to fit the engine in, such would of been even a worst understeering dog than ours, with the HR Premier price tag this must of justified such to be a better car over all, without that great chevy lump of crap 6 in it. In the 70's South Africa got our Valiant as well, but they use the Slant 6 imported from the USA, so they missed out on our Hemi 6. Last edited by GasoLane; 23-09-2020 at 04:18 PM. Cortina and then Sierra based P100’s were sold in the UK in the 70’s and 80’s, usually just the 1.6 or 2.0 Pinto motor.
They also all rusted out by the ‘90’s due to our lovely salted roads and wet weather.
