Starter Motor

The problem with my car is when I go to turn on the ignition, the motor starts but then cuts out and stalls, as if there is not adequate fuel delivery. Then starts up the second crank. I've changed the coil plugs, spark plugs, fuel filter and have started to clean my injectors with cleaner. My battery is working very well so not an issue there.
Has anyone else had/have this issue with their AU, and if so, what have you blokes gone about fixing the problem. (Ive kept in mind I may have to buy new injectors). Thankyou |

Check your fuel pressure and fuel flow as you may have the flow but not the pressure.

I have had a combination of factors that made mine (at 306K now) hard to start.
Manifold gasket leaks. An intermittent crank sensor, damaged crank sensor wiring. An aged fuel pump (worn carbon brushes). Aged coil pack and split boots on the original leads. I should have replaced the oil pressure switch when it was easier (inlet manifold off the head) but didn’t. |

Check for a leaking fuel rail pin hole leak due to corrosion. It's more commonly an issue on vehicles that have been left undriven for some time at some point in their life or have used ethanol fuel (it's hydroscopic and adsorbs water) but in any event, it's still worth checking. With this problem, there will be enough fuel at the injectors and perhaps in part of the fuel rail to initially start the vehicle but the injectors are then starved of fuel and it won't go until it is restarted and fuel rail refueled. Carefully and thoroughly check for a fuel wetness with your hand along both the outside of the bottom and ends of the fuel rail.
The metal fuel lines can also, but less often, corrode and leak causing similar issues. Similarly, check for leaking/dribbling injectors that might be emptying fuel from the fuel rail in to the cylinders between starts.
