Good day, just bought an EF and it idles ok then just increases by its self then goes back. Could this be the idle control motor or something more serious. Cheers Steve

Sounds like the ISC, can't be the timing because it's a coil pack. Try and pick up a ISC from your local wreckers rather than buying a new one just to be on the safe side. Also try adjusting the butterfly screw and see if that improves the idle. Could also be head gasket related, has happened to me before.

How much of an increase in RPM is there? It could just be the ISC doing its job. They do get filled with grime, you can unbolt them and give it a good cleaning with carby cleaner.

Thanks Aaron, Its revving up to 1500-1700 revs and the back to about 600-700
I disconnected the idle speed control and it seemed fine (if anything to lower revs). is there an ulternative to carby clean ie: Turps metho or anything the funds are very tight just got the car (and paying it off) once again thanks and have a good one!!! |

You can use turps but carby cleaner is no more than $10 a can...

I heard somwhere else it can also be the steering sensor,
it's near the extractors in the engine bay. Another time it was Exhaust sensor, Other times it has been faulty ecu, idle control circuit. Can be modded by fitting a plate under ICV with smaller holes. |
