Default Cortina Engine Numbers

Hi Everyone.
I realise that this topic has probably been covered before (more than once I suspect)...but being a relative newbie, I need some help and guidance please.
I have purchased an engine that I am told was originally out of one of the Cortina Repco Rally Cars.
Will I be able to tell from the engine number or the block casting number the year and origin of the engine?
Did Australian Cortinas have the same engine # as their chassis number as the Falcons did?

Cheers,
Erniech

Early cortinas had matching engine and Vin, but i think only up until 1970ish.
The block numbers should tell you more about when it was built and what engine it is. do youhave them ?

early cortinas never had matching vin and engine
numbers the vin was on the id plate which should
match the number on the radiator support panel
from about 1969/70 the id was put on the bulkhead
the number on the strut tower on mk2 related to
the engine number but never matching with the vin
the first of the mk2 had a 1300 or 1500 non crossflow
motors still have the id plate off my Feb 67 Gt cortina
which was a 1500 motor sadly the car was scrapped

What model Cortina specifically is the engine from?
Theres a bit of info out there on the 79 TE cars, I think I recall a discussion here
http://fordcortina.com.au/newforum/

or maybe here
http://rsmotorsport.com.au/forums/

It may take some digging but the info could still be there.
