As requested, here's a clip.

As stated previously, this has tri-y pacies, 100cpi cats, lukey straight throughs and full 2.5" twin system.

I respectfully don't like that sound.
My P250 sounded similar when I bought it, I quickly fitted a better and quieter system and it sound much crisper and performed better.

No offence intended though, horses for course...

It's probably a bit loud for me too but nothing a more restrictive muffler could fix?

ive had 3 AU 5 litres so been trawling forums, google etc for years, from every performance review from exhaust shops, to tuning shops to amateur racers 95% say tri Ys on them for best results. hurricane always near the top, pacemaker not quite as high as the reputation would expect from them

I dont like it peuty but my opinion doesnt matter so dont have a cry and over react,if it sounds like noise pollution to my ears it may be good to you,it sounded exactly like i expected and i think real life would be worse for sure,i think you shouldnt have talked it up as much as you did...
I like a refined sound, classy and not too loud, drony or pooey.
Like ive said before, one mans perception of good may be another mans idea of rubbish, dont get all worked up about it just know that opinions are like belly buttons, only worry about your own...

When I have those days it goes 1st, 3rd, 5th, there not torque monsters by any means but once in 5th you can tackle most roundabouts and give way signs in 5th gear at idle revs and some light throttle it pulls back or to 60-80kmh pretty easy

Hey guys, what are people opinions on the 2.5 inch redback systems? Was thinking of putting the single muffler version on my v8 ute, I figured if the redback muffler sounds crap I could stick a magnaflow or something else in there. Not too concerned about power, just want it to sound good!

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I can't find what I'm looking for.

I've fitted a single 2.5" Redback CAT Back system to the XR8 and it's just a bit quiet.

Will a straight through tail pipe make it louder or just noisy?

Should I put a hotdog tailpipe on instead?

It's not a daily driver so I'm happy for it to be loud, I just don't want it to sound like I've just cut the mufflers off an old junker.

Suggestions?

Well you have just fitted an exhaust that's smaller than factory, probably would be quieter.
Have a system built the same as the factory system with good mufflers (i.e magnaflows).
if it has a rear muffler taking it off might cause it to drone, same with hot gods.

Friends had a stock AU XR8, don't recall the stock system being loud....

Anyway, local exhaust place is going to make me up a straight through for $120, if it's too loud or drones too much I'll put the one with the muffler back on.

I recently upgraded the exhaust in my AU3 XR8 to a custom 2.5 inch with 100 cell cats and tapered twin tips. Sounds very meaty.

Sorry to drag this thread back up but it was the best I found and there are many out there....

Weighing up my options and basically down to either the off the shelf Manta twin 2.5 system or a custom 2.25 system with balance pipe for my au2 220 xr8. The engine is stock besides pacemakers and filter.

There are some good sound clips in the thread of the twin 2.5 system but none of a 2.25 system which is understandable as they need to be custom made.

Was wondering if anyone has or knows of a clip of a custom 2.25 system.

Also any recommendations of what mufflers etc to put into a 2.25 system would be helpful. And anything else I should look into as it seems all shops just want to bolt on a 3 inch or twin 2.5 system. Would like it to sound tough but not drone to much and be good down low.

Seems like the 2.5 system would be the easier option and most likely cheaper but would like to make the right choice.

Leaning towards twin 2.25 so far..

Thanks in advance.

If you're chasing performance then a dual 2.25" or 3" single are the only choices.
If you're chasing sound, then it doesn't matter and muffler choice will be the main determining factor.

Roostercam, a member here just had a dual 2.25" system fitted by one of my mates, it's about as good as it gets.
Send him a PM, maybe he can post up a sound file and pics.

Thanks for the help really appreciate it. Will go with the twin 2.25 with x-pipe. Will need to decide on mufflers and figure out if they need to be offset or not.

Seems like the Flowmaster 40 series and Magnaflow are very popular for the foxbody efi windsors in Mustangs.

Hey Kustomz,

Sorry, (not sorry) to resurrect this thread... it is the best one I've found, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Did you go ahead with the twin 2.25 with x-pipe? What muffler setup did you settle on? Are you happy with it? Are your pacemakers the 4001 tri-y's?

thanks.

Hey mate sorry about the very late reply have not been on much and no I have not done the exhaust yet and I have the tri-y's.

Actually have been back online trying to decide on a muffler but have not been able to decide on which one yet as I am not 100% sure which offset to buy and hoping someone here can help me.

I will show a couple pictures to help me explain.

This one is of Roostercam's custom setup on this forum and the 2nd one is the manta setup.

Both are using mufflers with a OFFSET in/out on the same side and the mufflers I want to use do not have this option.

The question I have is can I have a centre offset on one side? If so what side would it be better on the IN side or the OUT on the AU.

Cheers.

do you want loud? the manta being off the shelf is probably quiet bu louder than stock

i had a similar system years ago and the sound was great but it was quiet

i replaced the mufflers with hot dogs and it was better
then fitted a lumpy cam and deleted the h pipe and it was crazy loud

if i did it again i would stay with 2.5 duals with 4in round 12in long resinators in place of the mufflers and do a cam swap if you want it to idle like a v8
