With Socialist Nazi type dictator President J Biden I would doubt the USA make anything in 4 years, let alone have diesel small under F100 utes ute's or cars. He and his Party's radical issues are insane.

Good move for GM and may stave off another bankruptcy. The EV tipping point (for cars) cant be more than a decade away. There will probably always be a need for diesel engined construction equipment, but for vehicles using roads and highways, EV looks like the future (unless hydrogen makes a stunning leap forward).

I have no confidence that GM will come even close to this goal and I reckon they will finally crash and burn with this ambition. Completely jumping the shark and then some.
I really don't give a **** anyway what they do anymore since Holden is dead. |

And NSW and SA are considering an electric vehicle tax. EV's will be okay in capital cities and along the coastal strip. But inland ? Brisbane to Perth !!!

Making solid production statements so far out is dangerous. When they work on development periods of 3-5 years (which is getting even shorter these days, more like 2-3 years) then it’s wise to just see how the market goes rather than just saying we will do this on this date etc. You can’t force your customers to buy something they might not want.
Imagine offering your customers nothing but ev’s when half of them still want ice’s or hybrids. You would be screwed. |

look for GM to float more stock and bring in more cash to accelerate developments. This is very GM, they throw out press releases to get the glory at being first at something and then go off spending a ton of money doing it regardless of whether the timing is right or not. To me the rhetoric doesn't match the planned BEVs arriving in the next few years, all of them are either exclusive and high priced or more volume but still premium priced. GM has done nothing to convince it's high profit truck and full sized SUV buyers to go 100% electric, I guess that's why it's allowing 14 years for total transition. |

Mary Barra seems useless - when trump was in GM was favouring that administrations policies, now Biden is in suddenly they forgot everything they said or stood for and now have an electric policy. Blowing in the wind with no true and real direction or policies. They should have invested earlier before China ate their sales up and is now going to dominate the electric car industry anyway. They are going bust, that is true, but I guarantee this statement is looking for government funding to switch, so nothing more than rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship and going after government funding again. In the US socialism is wanting responsible government with policies on health and environment, like gov funded healthcare that the rest of the western world has, apparently that's wrong and socialism is a dirty word. Can't support the people or build for the future - that's bad socialism. But bailing out GM and banks etc is OK? The US rich upper class elite who just want more profit and don't care about you, so what is wrong with the government spending more money on the people and less on the corporations? Are there any decent automotive industry CEO's? They all seems like wacky waving arm inflatable tube men (and women) that deflate at the first sign of troubled waters and bail. |

True leaders and visionaries won't get that seat at an automotive company any time soon because they don't see a future in the industry, only yes men and conservatives think there must be a way to fix it, because they don't see the world with young people not buying cars due to costs, housing density, licences, full time employment at a decent wage and housing affordability issues. Oh well, better they flop about and disappear rather than grift and whinge like qantas' Joyce does for a living and refuses to go away. Last edited by oldel; 30-01-2021 at 09:32 PM. |
