I can’t comment on the driveline, sorry - nil exposure. Range Rovers seem to hold a bit more value for longer than some comparable German marques.

Trawl through rangerovers.net for info, you’ll likely be put off them after the first couple of pages.
That is what I did. I had an L322 supercharged 4.2 in mind. But a Turbo Porsche Cayenne was cheaper near me, and by all accounts a more solid vehicle. I put 20,000km on it before the timing chain went, turning it into an expensive shed ornament. So I did what I should have done in the first place and bought a Lexus LX. Ride quality isn’t as good as the other two. But I don’t need to worry about re sale or what is going to go wrong on a monthly basis. The early 4.4 BMW Range Rovers have timing chain issues, oils leaks and PCV failure. The 3.0 diesel M57 is probably the last BMW engine that is reliable. Nearly every one I’ve seen of these for sale has had the trans rebuilt at some stage. |

Volkswagen Touareg parts are same as Cayenne I've been told. Bloke I buy tyres off said he had a Cayenne once he bought it with 40k km on it. Headlights fell out when he pulled up to park one day and 2 weeks later drive shaft went. Drive shaft was $2500 + fitting from Porche dealer, one for a Touareg $400, fitted it himself in half an hour. I had a Discovery 2, sold it after a continual problem with valves sticking in the heads and parts failures. Last straw was when the central locking failed one day and I had to exit from the window.

It wasn't funny at the time as I was in a queue at the local soil place trying to get a trailer load of sand, but when I look back I always have a bit of a chuckle.

mmmm I'd say either a BMW 850CI/Alpina B12 or a AMG 560SEC widebody, with an honorable mention to the BMW M635CSi/Alpina B9
