Buckingham Palace has this afternoon announced the death of The Duke of Edinburgh at the age of 99.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle…The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss,” the Palace statement said. Details of his funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. Any plans will need to be adjusted to suit the United Kingdom’s COVID-19 restrictions. Prince Philip, who was born in June 1921 and was the longest serving consort of a British monarch, had spent four weeks in hospital in February-March, and underwent an operation for a pre-existing heart condition. The Duke is survived by his wife, their four children, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Always sad when people die, I learnt about the behind the scenes activities and parenting style of Phillip from Netflix's 'The Crown', he was certainly a solid No. 2
I really enjoyed his non-politically correct statements from time to time, just shows you he thought like most of us, but he just said it publicly lol

I'm sad that non PC is slowly fading from Aussie culture these days. It seems that everyone is perpetually offended these days about everything.
He had his gaffes for sure but the bloke was an old **** from way back |

He showed that attention seeking b grade actress from America what you are meant to do when you commit to a life of public service. Duke of Edinburgh award alone was an awesome thing to create. Over 3/4 of a million young Australians have completed it. RIP

funny ole geezer, love him or not quite hate him, He was one of those I would loved to have an unofficial chinwag with. We don't come to Canada for our health. We can think of other ways of enjoying ourselves. I don't think a prostitute is more moral than a wife, but they are doing the same thing. When a man opens a car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife. 1. Commenting on the Duke of York's house in 1986: "It looks like a tart's bedroom" 2. Overheard at Bristol University's engineering facility: "It doesn't look like much work goes on at this University." 3. Approaching his 90th birthday, 2011: "Bits are beginning to drop off." 4. At a dinner party in 2004: "Bugger the table plan, give me my dinner!" 5. Shouted to the Queen from the deck of Britannia in Belize in 1994, who was chatting. "Yak, yak, yak; come on get a move on." 6. At the Scottish Women's Institute in 1961: "British women can't cook" 7. Talking to Tom Jones after his Royal Variety Performance in 1969, he asked 'What do you gargle with, pebbles?'. The day after, he added: "It's difficult to see how it's possible to become immensely valuable by singing what are the most hideous songs.

8. At Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme in 2006. "Young people are the same as they always were. Just as ignorant."
9. On a visit to Canada in 1969: "I declare this thing open, whatever it is." 10. After being told that Madonna was singing the Die Another Day theme in 2002, the Duke of Edinburgh asked: "Are we going to need earplugs?" 11. At a project to protect turtle doves in Anguilla in 1965, he said: "Cats kill far more birds than men. Why don't you have a slogan: ‘Kill a cat and save a bird?'" 12. Talking about his equestrian-inclined daughter, Princess Anne: 'If it doesn't fart or eat hay, she isn't interested.' 13. When talking to designer Stephen Judge about goatee beard in 2009: "Well, you didn't design your beard too well, did you?" 14. When being questioned on when the Prince of Wales would succeed to the throne: "Are you asking me if the Queen is going to die?" __________________

15. Addressing Elton John he said, 'Oh it's you that owns that ghastly car is it? We often see it when driving to Windsor Castle.' Later, at the Royal Variety Performance watching Elton perform in 2001, he said, "I wish he'd turn the microphone off."
16. About a Cambridge student who didn't recognize him: "Bloody silly fool!" 17. To a Scottish driving instructor, 1999: "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to pass the test?"

Hi Guys,
The Queen will Miss The Duke of Edinburgh more then we know, After all He married the Queen when she was only 21 years old in 1947 and has been by her side all that time. In his time as The Duke of Edinburgh he had seen 18 Presidents of the United States come n go. He had been to Australia 21 times to visit. He came to Australia and asked some Aboriginals once " Do you throw spear's at each other"? they answered " Not any more sir". |

I too appreciated the blunt, and in more recent years - deemed not PC - language of HRH Prince Philip. That, and his long working life, retiring at 96, always impressed.

All of my sons attained the Duke of Edinburgh Award,
curious to see if it keeps being awarded now that he has passed away.

The picture preview for this thread on the app is a picture of Prince Andrew and that Epstein guy...was that from the removed posts and is it a glitch in the system that allows that picture to stay on several hrs later?
Much prefer to see the picture of Prince Philip from the thread. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

Sad for the queen seeing her husband and cousin die at the same time. And that isn't even a joke, Philip was a distant cousin.

An extremely sad picture of the Queen sitting alone.
