Default One of my Hobbies. I collect Eskys.

I have been told by my wife that this is my worst obsession. This is just 4 or 5 of them. All are steel.

This one is a 1959 - 60 version by Rota Grey hammer tone and white lid. Has internal bottle opener made by Sinclair & Powell Melbourne. Got this one from a garage sale.

This one is a long neck bottle picnic cooler 1960 - 61 again by Rota and made in Melbourne, this one was made to take 6 long neck bottles. Red i found this one at the Bendigo swap meet.

This one is made by Malleys. The portable cooler 1960 - 63 blue with white lid this one had an external bottle opener. I got this one from a shop in Lilydale Melbourne.

This is a 1957 - 58 Metters portable ice box. Green with a silver metal tone lid it has an external bottle opener as well as an ice tray and bottle rack. Got this one from Chapel Bazaar Melbourne.

I just thought some of you might like to see these as they are becoming hard to come by. I also have 50s and 60s picnic sets to go with all of these as well. So let me know what you think. Bj

Very original. But they must be heavy bastards to carry when they're full?

Fascinating!!! We had one (when I was a kid) that, unlike yours, had a hinged lid, finished in metallic mid-blue, a brass drain plug at the bottom and was heavy as. I cannot think of the brand of it.... Circa 1961. It was not a cheap one thats for sure, my folks would buy the best even if they couldn't afford it. My mum also had the first Hoover twin-tub washer in Adelaide, although I am straying off the subject....

I think that the blue malleys belongs to my folks. I can remember it as a kid. The pin striping on the side gives it away!!! Ahhhh memories.

I have over 140 of them ranging from the ones you see here to Coke, Dr Pepper, 7-up Tarax just to name a few. Yes they do take up some room and yes they are heavy when full but the do stay cooler than the newer ones. To answer your question Max yes i do i also collect 60s 8 tracks and in car record player, now there a bugger they run a 16th speed and the records are dam heavy.

My Dad collects torches. Any kind, the more bizarre the better. He has one with a radio in it, a million candle power one, a Port Power one (yes, he is a Power fan)... I think he has over 50 different torches of different ages...

My brother collects model railway stuff (has about $30K worth of it)...

I dont collect anything.

The eskis are cool in a bizarre, original kind of way!

I remember mum and dad had one, a blue steel "Esky" brand with a bottle opener on the side.
I had a beige steel one too, like a convoluted finish with a plastic lid !!
Must of been one of the last steel type ?

Hey you collectors:
Any interest in this neat little tin esky? Cleaning out the mother in laws house and finding all sorts of old crap! Nothing known of it's age. Good condition, a few scuffs in the paint but straight and very presentable.
I have no interest in it, other than ensuring it does to a place where it will be appreciated.
Currently in Mildura, Vic but will go to Melbourne shortly.
Hmmm, I need to learn something about how to post photos
