Default Leaded fuel finally phased out globally

Gentlemen and Non Gentlemen

Leaded fuel has finally had its last hurrah nearly 100 years after its introduction, with Algeria phasing it out.

What's the bets on how long until unleaded is banned? I'm calling banned in Australia by no earlier than 2075

Will never happen that early.

80% (my guesstimate) of new cars still run on unleaded.

No way they will be made obsolete in 9 years.

Perhaps 2050??

And there will be a whole bunch of companies offering 'drive in drive out electric conversions for the most common drive trains.

That's what I was thinking. Tetraethyl lead is an excellent octane booster, and has many other qualities around its use. Some British and Yank planes boosted their octane rating to as much 145.

But for any common popular use, get rid of it, toxic crap.

But then again, so are mobile phones and social media.

I think 2050 is a more realistic target for this.

By 2030 a large number of countries have already put in place bans of new cars sold that are fossil fuel powered. In conjunction with very strict Euro7 compliance, this has forced the hand of many car makers who have decided to abandon new engine developments and will commence transition to electric.

Once you stop new petrol cars, organically the consumption of fossil fuels will taper off over a period of time before a ban is put in place.

There’s still a ton of piston engined planes in the USA and even they’re fed low lead fuel,
no alternative has been developed, quite strange that nothing has even been proposed

You for got the main stream media as well in that such is criminally toxic nowadays as was Nazi Germany or any Communist Nation ministry of propaganda.

Unleaded petrol should be banned for cars, E1O is much less toxic.

The only reason why they had to get rid of the Leaded fuel was because of the cat converter gets destroyed by the lead. but unleaded fuel is far more toxic as the toxic part of such can leach into your skin and into your blood stream but leaded petrol did not do that and E10 does not have that toxic part in it, and unleaded fuel makes the underground water stink, so when burnt that crap falls to the ground and seeps down into the underground water.

I remember the first unleaded fuel VL Commodores and XF Falcons they were shockingly toxic, my mate who rode a pushbike to work out of town would have to get of his bike when a unleaded car went by because he got all dizzy and out of breath from the rotten egg smell.

How is E10 much better, when it's essentially 90% unleaded with 10% ethanol?

I reckon there's merit in phasing out anything less than 98 and then bringing in E85 as an interim before we transition to non fossil fuel powered automagic, kinda like Brazil.

Surely ridding ourselves of 91/95 and forcing everyone's hand to use 98 would give us some easy low hanging fruit gains on paper to brag about which can be implemented at the stroke of a pen.

That's my trick anyway, set the bar low then do all the easy **** to score marketable wins

Won’t really make any difference to the old classic car drivability.Plenty of older pre unleaded still cars still being driven round with no adverse problems

I'd love 98 as the base fuel, cause it's all I use. But then again, they could use 100 Ron as the premium juice

It's the toxic part chemical that has been replaced by Ethanol in the fuel that was the big problem.

So Ethanol took the place of the toxic crap that is in Unleaded, that's why the USA banned that toxic Chemical.

It's not unleaded petrol plus 10 % ethanol, it's ethanol that is taking the place of the banned toxic Chemical that was in the makeup of unleaded.

The only reason why they went to Unleaded was due to the cat converters can not be used with leaded fuel as it blocks them up. not to mention the cat converters were the reason why the engine oil changed to have no Zinc etc and that's why they went to roller camshafts, because without Zinc they chew up the old type of flat bottom lifters and camshafts.
