Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.

Every day in every way the renewable and EV industries are breaking down the barriers and debunking the myths of the naysayers. Every day a different manufacturer is coming out and saying no more ICE cars after a certain date. Every day infrastructure for EV's and renewables is being improved.

Yep. Industry momentum is what drives change. And the momentum is almost entirely with BEVs now. The volume of investment, the timelines for ICE phase-out... they all make it pretty clear that its now a matter of when, not if.

At least I have “Le Trickler” or the French flag, in my fleet colours.

Slightly off topic, but the big bossman created his own hydrogen powered haul truck and had it driving around in 100 days, field trials planned in 2023

Plenty have said it'll never work, the future is coming very quickly

I'd be more worried about low nickel supplies meaning building these EV's is going to be supply limited. If it's getting this bad now, imagine how bad it will be when all they make is EV's. It will be like semi-conductor shortages on steroids.

I wouldnt. Lithium-iron battery patents, largely held by the Chinese expire soon, and manufacturers like Tesla already have plans to start offering them.

I thought this was really notable - Toyota hedging their bets

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...in-2023-report

So you have two that would use electric motors
Mirai - hydrogen with fuel cell
Prius - hydrogen with ICE, and hybrid electric motor/battery

and one that's (drum roll) ... hydrogen ICE
Corolla

Very interesting

Toyota want to keep dealers happy. EVs equal no servicing which means no money for their dealers. Hydrogen cars will have some requirement for servicing as with any combustion system, there will be need for lubrication and cooling technology (which again will need maintenance).

Long Term, they'd want some kind of combustion engine in their cars to get the revenue.

I wonder when we are going back to the old days and ways, we need inventors to get their heads together, not car company scientists.
What happened to ant-gravity experimentation?
Or magnetic propulsion?
Or believe it or not, and its not as silly as it may sound, but using the stored energy from rubber bands!...sounds silly but rubber nowadays is different to last century, imagine heavy duty rubber bands encased safely in a tube driving a hypoid gear with a reverse transfer case.
When one unwinds expending its energy it immediately and electronically reverses and rewinds itself, 2 to each wheel, one driving and the other re-energising, I said it sounded silly, but its simplicity is understood by anyone who has wound an elastic band on an old balsawood plane!

And no, I'm not crazy, just logical!

Edit: yep, those rubber bands, had model boats at age 6 that did that!

the spinning superconductor seems a constant whenever I get really distracted and research this stuff.

Probably how we get sub 6s Range Rovers...
