Don't forget to stop for a minutes' silence at 11 to commemorate those who have died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.

I did a battlefields tour a few years ago in France, topped it off with Rememberance Day dawn service at Villers Bretonneux.
Pretty special and very moving. Lest we forget.

I sat and watched it on the ABC today, I was actually watching paint dry, on my bonnet.
Always I remember the fallen, from any war or conflict, and I love my first world war poets amongst other wars, and the terrible sadness of Wilfred Owen who was killed in battle in France, 4th November 1918, a week before the Armistice when pen was put to paper on 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to end this senseless slaughter of fine young and not so young men, and how Australia, New Zealand and Canada were roped in to fight " For King and Country "......yer right, what a waste of young men's blood on foreign soil, I am glad that the people of all the little villages in France 🇫🇷 especially, honour the fallen, those young men who volunteered to fight a war " to end all wars "....yer bullsh.t, those young men who knew no better, and died for it, not on their own homeland soil, but far far away from the embrace of stricken mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, never again to be seen, but knowing that where they fell and died, probably the younger ones asking the Padre to let their mothers know they loved them! Yes tough all round, but knowingly leaving our beautiful golden sun drenched land to fight a war that ended up being meaningless, but still remembered today with reverence, and the bountiful supply of poppy's on lapel or blouse, some not knowing why, others knowing why but keep silent lest the memory of a fallen comrade leaves them stricken with grief, even just for the briefest of moments, an overwhelming sadness that soon turns into a smile of gratitude! LEST WE FORGET. AMEN |
