Default Help requested

Hi,

I have a 2008 Mondeo wagon 2.3l 211000kms Auto, Alloys, spares a anchor though.

I have recently replaced Thermostat, PCV, Water inlet?/outlet manifold, rocker cover gasket. 2 spark plugs (2 to come).

Thermostat and water inlet manifold are related one blew the other.
Pcv valve was clogged replaced, PCV blew rocker cover gasket so replaced yesterday.

I had a knock noise after replacing the RCG figured slop in can chain gave it some gas, it went away, hasn't returned.

It's gone from 9.3/100 to 7.9/100 with just those fixes.

Pretty much the background story there.

Issue I'm having, the car pulls away very nicely up to aroun 4th gear or between 60-80 kph once it hits 5th and 6th at 105kmph it's lik you have the handbreak on.

If i drop kick it down it pulls away, if i flip it to sports mode on the transmission stick it pulls away. If I'm doing 100 and I gently lower the accelerator even up to the point it downshifts. honestly there's nothing.

It is doing my head in.

Surely the cat is ok or it would respond after a downshift. Fuel pump surely must be ok per previous.\

I don't know where to start hopefully someone has a previous issue with this and can target me where to start looking.

Or is this what it is, and it's all it's going to be?

My friend has a AWD Honda land cruiser type vehicle with a 2.4 in it and it's shockingly more responsive then the Mondeo and I'm half the weight,

any thoughts, well I'd be eternally grateful.

Have you checked for fault codes? Try Forscan for Windows and a laptop with https://forscan.org/home.html and https://www.obdlink.com/products/obd...x/?ref=forscan or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094Z7PBLS from Amazon or ebay. They are renowned for DPF issues that can put them into limp mode see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yop_WFCHvuc and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tm_y02fGPw The also known for developing EGR sytem leaks but these usually also usually have associated coolant losses. Probably worth scrolling through all of Alan Howatt's MK $ Mondeo videos just in case too https://www.youtube.com/c/alan4x6677...k%204%20Mondeo

EDIT: if you have the 2.3 Liter Mazda engine all of the above except scanning for fault codes is probably irrelevant.

Life hates me, Took it around to a paddock to drop a trailer load of garden waste for burning later, turned my back was offloading the trailer, a sheep snuck up and was headbutting the passenger door.

Feel like compacting it and buying a Holden right now.

BTW if you read reviews of the 2.3 Mondeos most note they were not great performance cars with comments like "the engine feels like a boy trying to do a man's job" (Dog & Lemon Guide) and "160 horsepower don’t sound like overwhelming power in a midsize sedan, and with a weight figure of more than 1.5 tons, it really isn’t (https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/20...-2-3-titanium/ ). and "The 2.3-litre petrol version is no performer but still does the job most people would expect from the car" (https://www.racv.com.au/royalauto/tr...rd-mondeo.html) and: "Disappointing, to be honest. Indeed it's not an exaggeration to say that we've finally discovered a new Mondeo that we don't like. The engine is loud and needs to be revved hard to deliver much in the way of performance, while the six-speed auto is reluctant to kick-down and saps most of the limited enthusiasm the engine is capable of mustering. Overtaking performance is poor, and even taking control of the gear selection through the Tiptronic-style over-ride doesn't improve matters much (https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review...ondeo-2.3-ghia).

Thanks Blue, had a sneaky feeling you have to drive it hard to get performance.

It's great at overtaking as long as I switch to sport and let it wind out the revs. it's the lack of enthusiasm when I ask it for a just a little that riles me.

Owning the 2.3l always feels like something is wrong with it. You left the handbrake on, always thinking, this engine should just be more, more.

It's as if they didn't work the fly by wire properly.

Cheers for your input mate. Appreciated.

PS have drained PCM and got it to recalibrate.

I had a 2.3 petrol for 2 years. The engine makes decent power if you rev it, but is a bit lacking in torque at low to mid revs. This is very apparent in the Mondeo because it is heavier than the Mazda 6, which has the same engine. I was advised by a Ford salesperson to leave it in Sport mode, and it was definitely more responsive.

I bought a MB diesel, which goes much better. The MC with the Powershift box is even more fun.

Wouldn't a (Dodge) Ram be a more appropriate alternative in the circumstances?

Thank ewe for that.

I was laughing till I took it to the panel beaters and he said well over a thou and my excess is a thou.

Just deciding which brand of mint sauce goes best with sheep.

The funny thing was i ran around the car screaming like a jessie and the sheep just stood there looked at me like, yeah buddy just come a little closer fella. I backed off slow and easy then ran to the drivers side and pressed the horn. You had to be there I suppose, to understand the evil intent on that rams face.

cute and fluffy my ***.
