Impressive to see how fast 417 k's looks in action.
Wouldn't want a truck or another vehicle to suddenly pull out in front of the lane, though.

And contrary to what the government has been telling us, speed does not kill.

Inappropriate speed kills!

I can just see all the 'experts' in transport NSW having seizures , some one hits 400km/h on an appropriately designed highway and does not suddenly cause mass fatalities.

Although the guy driving in a racing suit

all fantastic until someone inadvertently moves into the lane doing 200km/h - the closing speed would be enormous

Nah, they actually drive properly over there.

Here, being a good driver means sitting in the right hand lane at 30 under the limit.

'' For those that say it was irresponsible and dangerous:
4:50am on Sunday
10 cars per 10km so 1 car per 1 km
Good visibility is about 3-4km straight ahead so there is enough time to react.
The Chiron can brake from 400 to 0 in 9 sec. within 490m.
All cars are in the far right lane.
There was an earlier drive through the section to make sure there is nothing on the road.
There is a fence along the whole stretch of the highway, so no animals can interfere.
3 people were spotting on 3 bridges for maximum safety.
If you still think it’s irresponsible and dangerous, well, we respect your personal opinion.

What did the guy in the Porsche feel like when he was overtaken at 417?
Here is his testimony, as he was another spotter to make sure everything was safe:

As I drove the yellow Porsche 911 Turbo S at over 200 km / h, I absolutely didn't understand how the car could overtake me so fast. The moment the Bugatti passed me, was absolutely stunning. It was like a fighter jet flew by. The speed and roar of the engine cannot be forgotten. Absolutely amazing experience.

it's not the speed that's the problem if you read it carefully. it's because it is a race. even a 'single vehicle race'

of course they do - have a look at what they have in place for emergency response - if they all drive so well, why do they need this?

"Under German law, driving at such speeds is punishable even if, as in this case, it was a so-called solo race, provided the driver was travelling “at an inappropriate speed and in a grossly irregular and reckless manner in order to achieve the highest possible speed.”

If found guilty, Passer faces imprisonment of up to two years or a fine."

He will get a fine, that's it

They actually train them how to drive properly over there. Getting a licence is a long process of rigorous training, including autobahn driving rules/standards.

Their driving skills are about 1000 times better than your average victorian who spends a few hours behind the wheel being taught bad habits by crappy driver trainers. And an attitude of if I drive 10kms under the speed limit i barely even need to watch the road.

Yeah, you just need to see our TAC ads in VIC to see their agenda, like the latest one about a bloke throwing his Falcon off an embankment because he was doing 90 in an 80 zone

Maybe the problem was he was taught how to drive in Victoria?

They've just reduced a few 100 zones to 80 here and a 60 zone down to 40 recently in Bulla in the north western suburbs of Melbourne, it's like they're encouraging me to read AFF while I'm driving.

Let's reduce the Calder Freeway to 40km/h between Kangaroo Flat and Keilor Park, just to save lives of course.

Just shows how pointless such cars have become
What is the point of owning a car who's selling point is doing 400kph

Like buying a supersonic fighter jet, and never leaving the ground.

Don't get me wrong, they are obviously an incredible feat of engineering, and creds to this bloke and his team for actually putting it to the test, but for most owners they'd actually be better off with the implant.

This mentality, our cars keep getting better and safer, Cars now get mad at you if they think your going out of lane etc.

Yet they keep dropping speed limits on rural Roads.. because some Halfwit read a study that lowering the limit will reduce fatalities

Haven't driven on the autobahn, but have driven in various parts of Europe.

My observation is that people there are generally more courteous when it comes to driving.

This includes not being a left hand bandit (or right hand here). Its not common that you get some numptie on the outer lane going "slow", like you do here.
Outer lanes are generally left clear for the aeroplanes. The fuzz are also much more likely to catch you if you hog the outer lane going slow. That's not to say it couldn't happen....but odds are less likely.

417 does seem a bit excessive though

Whilst i do agree it would be sad.
Their road toll doesnt seem to be as bad as ours. And IMO i think it comes down to driver training.

Yeah he drives off the road cause he was going over the speed limit, not because he was distracted and took his eyes off where he was headed.

That's the type of ridiculous crap they peddle here. If he was doing 10 under the speed limit he still would have ran off the road. But they would have you believe it wouldn't have happened.

No wonder our death toll hasn't dropped at all over the last few years, and I think it actually went up last year. The only trick in their arsenal is speed reduction, not focusing on driver distraction and crap roads.

As a Kraut myself, I know very well how much better most European nations handle driver instruction but that's largely irrelevant here. All the skill in the world won't help this bloke if an obstacle appears in his path. The car may have incredible technological aids to assist the driver but that won't help much either if he runs over an oil slick and loses traction. At that speed, you would have no chance of reacting.

ahhh OK, so the driver was German and no other Nationalities else can drive on it - I get it now

Now, what was the Nationality of the driver again? and he obtained a German licence to drive the Autobahn

417kmh is approx

6.9km per minute
116m per sec.
I have always loved driving fast and raced a lot but that speed is too much for the open road, regardless of how good the road is.

Just goes to show how statistics can tell any story you want.

One way to interpret that is that Canberra drivers are the safest in the world!
