Default MC TDCi air conditioner compressor clutch

2013, 135,000 km, air con' has died suddenly about 6 months after a re-gas.

The auto electrician advises that the air conditioner compressor clutch has burnt-out or otherwise gone open circuit. I've been offered two options; get the clutch rewound for about $650 installed, or go the whole compressor unit for about $1250.

Wondering if anybody relate how well the compressors last, and so the likelihood that it will be fine and we can go with the cheaper options.
Thanks.

2009 MB 270K compressor was leaking refrigerant around the relief valve. New compressor from Ford was $750 around Dec/Jan.

I've got a 2010 LV TDCI Focus, same engine so one would assume same A/C compressor.

Car has 235,000km and AC has never been turned off, if the car is running them so is the AC, still going strong.

I use the heater to control temp inside the car and the AC stays on permanently.
