Default my quote from ford

went into my local Rebel Ford just now, there was a guy free to give me a quote so that was good.

anyway turns out my waterpump is screwed as i suspected, belts are overdue also which i knew too.

this is their quote:

water pump $129
drive belt $23
fan belt $30
belt drive $21
inhibitor corr 500ml $15

total including labor is $520!

whats the difference between "drive belt" and "belt drive"???

perhaps i should see about doing this myself and do a thermo and serpentine conversion in the process?

unless you have the v8, the ancilliaries are run off 3 belts. since the prices are $2 apart i'd one will be the bigger belt for your water pump/alternator and the other will be for the aircon or power steering pump. i cant remember what drives what exactly, but i think the fan/alt/water are 1 belt, ac is another and ps is the third sorry.

Never pay a Ford dealer to do your work. They will fix ne things and break the next.
Buy a Gregorys Ford ED falcon manual and do it yourself.

I think most of us have replaced one, and yes it is dead easy to do, apart from removing the damn reverse thread clutch fan.

I think there is a special tool to help remove the clutch fan. At least money spent on tools (rather than someone else's labour) gives you something that can be re-used, not to mention experience.

clutch fan is a piece of ИИИИ to remove when you know what you are doing. You just need a 32mm open end spanner and a big flat blade screw driver takes like 30 seconds to get it off. Mate if you were in melbourne I'd do it for a slab. Ford are kidding themselves with that price.

a long cold chisel and a hammer is another way to crack off the thread on the thermo fan
just make sure you hit it the correct way to loosen it

The 32mm spanner is huge!

I bought one just for this job...

Needless to say I haven't had much use for it since I replaced the water pump 6 months ago :P
