Default Inertia/Retractable rear seatbelts for Mk2 4d Escort

Hi guys,

Has anyone fitted retractable rear belts to a 4 door mk2? If so what did you use and did you need to make any modifications to the car or the belts to get them to work?

One of my rear lap/sash belts is a bit buggered, and if I'm going to replace them it would be good to put retractable one is to make it a little safer for the kids.

Would you have to get that engineered if it wasn't standard from the factory?

That's a very good point... I thought that if it was using the original lap/sash mounts, that fitting newer belts wouldn't require engineering... But maybe the change from static to retractable would?

the upper mount points on the parcel shelf should be strong enough so no need for engineering, but I found that it was incredibly difficult to mount the retractor there at the top because the shelf sits lower than the top of the rear seat. You will need some kind of dogleg bracket to lift the retractor up a bit.

I didn't even consider fitting the retractor at floor level but that might be a possibility.

I gave up and refitted static lap/sash belts in the 73
