sluggish feel solved

Hi guys,

I recently bought an 02 AU series 3 XR6 and realised that it felt a little sluggish (compared to my bros 01 AU2) from the take off until i put my foot down.

I searched this forum for threads that had similar problems and made a list of possible reasons and found that things such as leads, coil pack, ECU, blocked cat, fuel pump ect. could be the problem.

I got new leads and spark plugs fitted as per the advice of a mechanic which thankfully solved the problem.

The car felt so much better and responsive after that so i just wanted to post this up incase there are others out there with similar issues. having said that, this may not be the solution for everyone as it may be something else but worth the input.

My 01 XR6 is having a similar issue at the moment, has no-go when put under heavy acceleration.
Will definitely try new spark plugs first (recently replaced the leads and they were not the issue).

Yeh good point falcon xr68. Mine was starting to feel a bit sluggish, thought it must be the air filter, it was getting pritty dirty. New filter made no difference. Thought well maybe new plugs, but they're "only" 20,000 km old. Boy did the new plugs make a differnce, drove like new again.

Also worth mentioning that the catalytic converter should be replaced around every 140,000kms, or 10 years. So if car is sluggish around 140,000km, or 280,000km, suspect that too.


- And you can buy a universal cat from ebay for $40, or a genuine one for 10x more.
