Default 'Protected' old Holdens face export ban

Not sure if this is serious or just banter but could be interesting if it does come to fruition.

Didn't care about GM or Australian manufacturing enough to keep them in the country, now the government wants to turn around and claim they're 'Australian Protected Objects' to stop them from being exported overseas in a huge slap in their face to their owners

What a joke, given how slowly the wheels of government turn I don't think this would happen.

What about all the XA-B-C coupes and barra turbos that have been sent overseas??
I put it to you that they were a more significant loss to our heritage than any number of holdens...
🤨

Cheers, Tony

happened years ago in NZ.
Christchurch was/is the southern base for USA Antarctic forces, the boys knew they would be on 'ice for 12 months, so they would fly in on the Hercules and Globemasters, unload their Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds etc etc buy old model A etc or that era put everything into the hangers at airport.
12 months later having owned both vehicles in NZ they would sell their muscle cars duty/tax free and cart off the vintage stuff and tax free,

Car clubs soon got wind of what was happening, spoke to Government who sat on their asses and dis nothing. Clubs then spoke to unions and airport fright handlers very quickly refused to load US aircraft and air traffic controllers were refusing to allow takeoff with contraband stuff on board.

I'd much rather a car (any car, or indeed any thing) be exported to someone who will cherish it, than it sit rotting in a paddock over here just because.

Not sure where you got the info.

USAF/USN/USCG Artic ops in NZ load their own aircraft or use RNZAF personnel as required for the forward operational facilities

Doubt a civvie ATC operator would risk their job over cars, let alone being responsible for a potential diplomatic incident.

Despite the misleading wording of the referenced article, it appears that only 1 specific car is potentially 'protected'.

If they are talking about ‘43D’, that is Brocks Monaro, not the 69 Bathurst winner.44D was Colin Bonds Monaro which won Bathurst that year. Brock actually finished 3rd.

Why would Car clubs take issue with this? and how would a mere car club influence any airport operations.

Using Military operated planes to bring in personal vehicles seems a bit of a stretch too, are you sure about your source of info?

What are the chances any of these cars being bought from an overseas owner and sent there anyway? Most of these cars aren't well known outside Australia and NZ.

The amount of coupes that have gone to America to be butchered and turned into Mad Max Interceptors is criminal. While I'm all for people doing what they want with a car, I feel like the Americans don't appreciate how few coupes were actually built, they would be considered incredibly rare compared to what was produced in the USA.

To scrap most likely. It was never going to be needed again.
