Default Possible New Car??

Hi Guys and gals

As you may / may not remember (most likely may not) my ef rx6 was written off 2 months ago.

After two months of screwing around with 2 insurance companies I am now in a position to get a new car.

Over the long weekend I am hoping to take a test drive of a 1994 manual xr8.

It looks pretty nice in the photos, it has 130k on the clock, is lowered, has new clutch, 15 inch simmons wheels, extractors and 2 1/2 exhaust

Just a couple of questions:

When i'm looking at it, is there anything inparticular I should be looking out for?

If I do decide to get it, is there anything I should keep an eye out for?

As I plan for it to be a daily car, the only way the wife will let me get one, and with Fuel going up, are they suitable for a LPG conversion and if so what sort of dosh am i looking at for that?

Cheers

Dan

My 2c.

Hey, glad to hear they coffed up for you! I have an 98 EF Ghia V8 which I have had zero probs with so I'm not real good for help in that sense but on the fuel side of things, I think you will find they aren't that thirsty - certainly worth doing the maths on how long it would take to pay off the lpg install. Mine averages 13.1l/100km in town which is basically only driven in peak hour (canberra peak hour that is!). You might find that it's gonna take 2 years or more to pay for itself by when you may be getting out of the car anyways.

Well, the EF get's about 9.5 - 10.0L/100km on the highway. City driving is my enemy, even worse in the GT ('round 17.5L/100km). When you look at gas, remember that allthough it is cheaper per litre, you will also use more litre's per 100km. It usually still works out cheaper but I know a couple of people who aren't sure if lpg was the way to go. Hopefully someone on here has one on gas to tell you their figures!

Sounds good, low kays etc. I'd check for basic things like oil leaks and damage. Check all accessories work. Windsors are less prone to head gasket problems, so take that into account. Take a test drive, and make sure you get it to 100/110 kmh. I've heard of people test driving cars up to 60 kmh, then discovering a severe vibration at 100 after buying the car. Make sure it drives straight and doesn't pull to the side. Just basic stuff, good luck with it.
