Brownish lettering on white background gov issue plates might have given it away. Usually starting with the letters MVA or MDA .
Everything from council vehicles, SES, firetrucks, police and ambulance use these plates.

Yeah, they used to be driving BMW and Mercedes. I have seen more and more in the VW Passat.

A video has been posted online which shows unroadworthy rear tyres on a police car.

The video, posted across social media, appears to show a man checking the rear tyres of a Highway Patrol car in Victoria while on a traffic stop.

"The inside is bald as a baby's bottom – so your car is defected," he quips at a police officer, who gets on the ground to inspect the Highway Patrol car's tyres.

"So before handing out defects, maybe check your own car," he added.

No longer the case, most red plate gov cars start with the M prefix which applies to all gov departments however unmarked cars and most highway patrol vehicles are now leased and wear generic blue on white plates

The unmarked Golf had standard issue plates.

Unmarked cars are easy to spot....generally speaking, they are modern, clean, have very dark tint, and will have one or two mini antenna stuck on to the rear window or rear windscreen, although sometimes can be on the side of the bonnet.

LED modules on dash and rear parcel shelf, or inline with rear head rests, plus sometimes also around number plate frames.

Still do out here. D's GD's and HWP still have red on white M gov issue plates.

But agree you can spot them miles away without the plates anyway.

Realistically, if you arent doing anything wrong undercovers or marked police cars shouldn't be anything to worry about.
So whats the issue? Its harder to speed if you arent sure if the car behind is the fuzz?

Yeah I had a run in with one of those.
Going to work, 4am waiting to turn onto the freeway, light goes green and a Ranger dressed up as a plumbers rig rolls around the outside of me, I thought I'd show him what an Aussie car can do and punched it up the on ramp. He lit me up so I pulled over, when he finally caught up he pulled along side me and just waived his finger at me. Kudos to him he could have done alot worse

Watched an old underbelly tele movie last night about the murders of Silk/Marsh. Coppers were in VT execs, VT SS, vs execs, el falcons, was great to see all the aussie cars dominating the road again, even if it was for a show.
